In short: Much tougher course than I expected! In full: Lovely scenery, but a fair amount of track running which I don't remember seeing in blurb. The first mile and half was very congested going through woods - very slow runners had started towards front which made this more problematic. Lovely, very well-organised race. Gorgeous finish along the water front! Date of review: July 30, 2012

In short: Lovely race- not really Dundee, but very nice In full: Loved this race and on a beautiful day yesterday- hit a 1:53 PB and very happy.
Pros- Scenery lovely- not really a city race, more trails, footpaths, coastal section at end. Despite some steep uphills, lots of good long downhills and potential to be a fast race for a lot of people, though running against the wind at the end was tough! Well organised over all. Clear start and finish. Good mile markers and I was happy with the drink stations provided though bigger cups of water could have been nice! Although fairly quiet, some good sections of public support- cheered me up.
Cons- Route could have been better thought out- there were 1000 runners doing the half, so the first 2 miles of narrow forest trails were less than ideal- very hard to pick your way through slower runners and groups taking up the width of the path. End- a bit unclear about what path to take, was directed through some very narrow bollards, not great when you're trying to finish quickly and the course is still busy with runners. Felt sorry for the Full Marathon runners having to run through the Half Marathon finish with all the happy Halfers delighted to be done...psychologically tough! On that note, strange to have the full and half marathon starting at the same time, same place. Obviously made the field a bit mixed and tougher for the full runners to run alongside everyone who they knew would be finishing halfway round their route!
Beautiful weather helped and all in all a very enjoyable day. Date of review: July 30, 2012

In short: Tough course and even harder in the wind In full: Really nice but tough course starting off running on footpaths through the woods. Amble down towards the waterfront and then a very flat section for 10 miles before the tough climb back to the finish again mostly on footpaths. This year the wind down the waterfront was somewhat challenging making the second half of the run very tough overall. Also a bit lonely on the second half with so few runners. There also could have been a water point around the half way mark especially with that wind as having a gap from 11.5 to 16 miles was just a bit much. Date of review: July 30, 2012

In short: 2012 marathon In full: a great first 13 miles with plenty runners about but it was a lonely last 13 after the half marathoners finished. i found that whilst running the second half i was never really sure where i was going as alot of the painted arrows on the ground seemed to vanish until the last 2-3 miles. that said i always love running next to the sea so loved miles 11 to 22; if only it wasnt so windy along the front my legs might have held out a bit longer. dont think i'll be back next year only cause of the 6 hour round trip in the car is just to far. In short: Harder than I thought ! In full: Great run , mostly along cycle pathways with very little road running. Police were excellent in stopping traffic for us to cross main roads. I did struggle up the hill up to the 11 mile mark , even though I have run that a hundred times before , as I live at the top ! Wish I had trained more as my time was far from my best. Maybe next year Date of review: August 16, 2011

In short: A good half. In full: A very well organised half marathon, from the parking of cars to the buses laid on to take us back to the start. A bit narrow at the start and due to the rain the night before rather muddy, but not mush we can do about that, however the weather was very kind to us on the day. A good route through Dundee apart from the steel poles on the path we had to look out for, a bit narrow. The only down side to this event was no timing chips as the results had some mixed results, would have thought an event this size would have been using timing chips. However a good event and plenty of room at the finish, and the buses to the start were very good. Date of review: July 24, 2011

In short: My first Half Marathon loved it. In full: This was a great race at a bargain price, the up hill at the start wasnt as bad as i thought it would be because of the woodland scenery. Then mostly downhill after that till 9 -11 miles it was up and down. Nice medal and finishing by the sea on my regular running route was great. Date of review: July 23, 2011

In short: Great race, great organisation, great price! In full: 3rd year I have done this and once again Evenful have excelled themselves for the low cost. This is my home town although I now live in Newcastle but travel each year to run. Low price and excellent organisation and scenery. New change to the course was beter even with long uphill. Cannot praise this race enough. Makes me proud to be a Dundonian. Date of review: July 18, 2011

In short: A fine half marathon In full: This was a fair bit more challenging than I expected. The net downhill elevation masked a number of serious climbs and with the wind into your face it was harder than expected.
The organisation was fine, everything was in place, and it had the feel of a race organised for runners as opposed to the more glitzy commercial "events" we tend to see more and more of. The route was more varied than the cycle path I expected with muddy forest sections.
No PB for me, but the long steep downhills probably offer PB potential for some.
Overall this was an interesting and challenging race and good value for money. Date of review: July 17, 2011

In short: Ready to do it all over again. In full: This is my home town although I live in Edinburgh now, so I wanted to support Dundee sporting events and this one didn't disappoint. A lot of it out the back of Dundee is almost single track but being a smaller race there was no real moments of being stuck behind anyone or holding anyone back.
It was a hot day so the warm breeze from the coast was very welcoming towards the finish. This was my second Half Marathon and I managed to shave 11 minutes off my time, which I was very pleased with. Don't expect much spectator support until the end but I just enjoyed it as a quiet, getting on with it race.
Definitely considering doing it all over again this year. Date of review: May 25, 2011
