In short: Lovely local run, well marshalled
In full: Very friendly race with some great marshalling. The necessary delay at the start couldn't have been predicted by the organisers as the car boot was exceptionally busy due to such bad weather recently meaning the sun brought everyone out. Well done to Elmbridge for delaying. Lovely running along the river and friendly bunch of runners at my pace. Marshall at the final water station offered multiple refills - much appreciated. Definitely be back again.

In short: Fast flat multi-terrain race
In full: My 2nd year at this Event. It attracts a strong field of runners which gives you a clue about its long established status and reputation.

The start was delayed by half an hour owing to very bad traffic in the local area. Fair play to the organisers for making plans to delay the start - Some races wouldn't have done this.

Marshalling and support is very good all round. Yes the main road is not closed for the run but the marshalls do a great job at controlling the traffic. One driver got a bit irate with one of the marshalls as I ran past but the marshall stood his ground for the safety of the runners - that was good to see.

Slightly disappointed at the lack of a timer at the finish line. There were no massage facilities this year either but I was proud of my 'silver' medal. Last year I got a bronze so I guess I've improved :-)

Re: the previous comment about the confusion with 100 metres to go. I was there supporting some other runners and can offer a different viewpoint. The marshalls were occupied with a lady who had taken a serious fall on the bend. She was in a bad way and so they had to attend to her before St Johnn's ambulance arrived. This momentarily left that area unmarshalled for direction pointing and the '10 year old kid' was indeed pointing his hand in the wrong direction - but in fact what he was doing was holding his hand up to warn cars exiting the adjacent car park not to edge forward until the runner had passed. Very commendable that the lad stepped in I'd say.

All-in-all a very good race. I'll be back again. Good job Elmbridge Road Runners.

In short: Good but could be better
In full: I would consider doing this again...but ....there was a problem with traffic. I ended up walking from Walton High Street, which is a fair distance on a hot day.I did hear the announcer say they clashed with a car boot fair and have done on previous years....well please tell us to travel early then or risk a mild panic wondering if we'll make it!
Didn't see any water station at the start and on a hot day when it's a delayed start this would help. I suffered for this on the run.
that said well marshalled and ...if you're not suffering a nice 5k return along the river.
Will consider next year.

In short: Well-organised; plenty of marshalls; good atmosphere
In full: Well done, Elmbridge Road Runners! A well-organised, friendly race. Good marshalling, with useful encouragement along the route. Half road; half river path; flat! Lovely medal too!

In short: I seem to always be in the last 10, but love this race :)
In full: Clubby but friendly, along my usual run route - so local and a nice change for a Sunday run for me. Well organised and nice medal. Would be better if timing mat at start as well, but minor gripe. I'll be back next year :)

In short: Disappointing event on a noisy, fume filled and dangerous road.
In full: This was to be my last race before a summer break and I was looking forward to half along a quiet road then back along the river. Well, the marshals were supportive and the towpath pleasant, but that's about it.

The race HQ was around the corner from a giant car boot, and the resulting queues of traffic meant I and many others abandoned our cars a mile from the start to walk there. Because of this the race start was delayed by half an hour. The day was hot, but I saw no drinking water at the start and there was no toilet paper. I couldn't hear the PA system.

The first half, yes a full three miles, was along a busy A road, spent inhaling fumes from exhausts or being practically grazed by annoyed motorists passing at speed from behind. Some hooted, and not to offer support.

After 5K the run was pleasant enough, although you could hear the traffic at all times, and there was a small plastic cup of water offered around 6K.

100 metres from the finish I had to ask directions; there was a group of marshals staring blankly and a kid of about 10 pointing the wrong way. I didn't see a timing clock at the end so I haven't the foggiest how it went. I was so cross that I'd spent hard earned cash on such a horrible run I considered throwing the medal in the bin.

Never again. I wouldn't run the Elmbridge 10K again if they paid me. Next time I fancy a run I'll drive myself to the beautiful and free Thames Towpath near where I live and run six miles along it by myself with a bottle of water, I'll have a much better time.

In short: Quick and Newbie frindly
In full: I live locally so know the course well. As a none club runner, it did seem to be very clubby, but surely this indicates that it is a good race? The clubby feel only spurred me on the try and beat some club runners.
The course was marshalled very well by enthusiastic and friendly volunteers. Thankfully the traffic we encountered on the 1st 5k paid attention to their instructions! Nice finish under the digital clock. Lovely medal at the end. Well done Elmbridge Road Runners.

In short: hot and tough with some little niggles
In full: when a race is advertised as chip timed it suprised me when once id run through the start i hadnt run over any mats, then hey presto i realised there werent any... so my plan of starting further back and working my way through was blown to pieces before i start... this combined with my pet hate of collecting numbers on the day was not a good start. on the positives though after a rather dreary run down a never ending main road the scenery was very nice on the way back down the tow path, but caution, despite it being advertised as flat (yes ) but fax?? on that gravel tow path, im not so sure...Also as ever another hot one, not the organisers fault of course and the race did start at 9am so at least this was considered...

hung around for the presentations and was impressed to see a 1500 quid cheque handed over to local charities and then hung around by the river for a few hours for the pub to open and scoffed a sunday lunch to get rid of the frustrations of earlier...

In short: Well organised and flat 10k route with a strong field of runners
In full: This was my 6th 10k run this summer and the flat and comfortable route allowed me a new PB. It is very well organised, with supportive marshalling, allows good use of the Xcel leisure centre before and after the race, prints the race results pretty much as soon as you cross the finish line and offers a great medal - which for a further £4 I got engraved. An excellent race and I'll be back again.
