In short: Fairly tough trail race in the heat
In full: First time doing the 10K, but I've done the 5K monthly handicap here many times, so I knew what to expect from the terrain. Basically make sure you don't run out of steam on the hills and preserve energy for the end. It was extremely hot as well which made it challenging - but I got a PB, so am pretty chuffed. Local race for me so I'll be back

In short: "Undulating" about sums it up
In full: Hot, Hot, Hot. Don't get me wrong I like running in the heat but 27 odd degrees made it that bit more challenging. Happily, regular water stops, shaded woodland paths and excellent organisation made the race survivable for most.

In short: +5 mins to your PB...
In full: ...Second time i've done this and both times it has been the hottest day of the year... A great course, frequent hills (some steep) and stunning scenery. A tough cross filed finish in the burning sun. Good amount of shade under the trees. Water stations were pretty ineffective though - I had to stop dead twice to get a cup of water. Perhaps the organistion could be improved to make end a little better. Moving the tents slightly away from the end of the race would prevent crowding at the exit, also more sponges so they didn't run out/need to be recollected. The organisers were having to do a fair bit of ordering people about which could've been avoided. However - fantastic care was given to overheated runners by St Johns and organisers alike - which is the most important thing of course. A great race for the scenery and the challenge. Don't come looking for a PB though. Did it in 47min (with a 42min PB).

In short: superbly organised challenging race
In full: Organisers - don't listen to the pleas for a different finish/fewer hills etc - it's a tough challenging race and this is what makes it stand out. Enough forested coolness to make it do-able on one of the hottest days of the year. A trail run close enough to London without the crowds. One of my favourite runs of the year.

In short: Tough but the scenery makes up for it.
In full: For the 2nd year in a row the heat was a killer so the wooded parts of the route are a welcome relief, as were the added watering stations and the encouragement from the people mannin them. It's a nice friendly event, with quite a small but mixed field, so being manhandled away after helping my friend finish seemed a bit serious, but other than that, a great experience. Nice t-shirt, so I'll be back next year.

In short: Tough but I'm glad I did it
In full: The start is a lot closer to the tube than I was expecting. The start is also close to the toilet building in the car park and there weren't any queues.

All the helpers were very welcoming and friendly. Marshalls on the course were very vocal and very supportive which was greatly appreciated.

This is the first race I ran without my ipod - I just fancied running in the woods and hearing the silence. And I didn't miss my ipod. I enjoyed running in the countryside, and the scenery is beautiful.

A lot of the course is shaded and on such a hot day that was very much needed. I have never stopped in a race before but the hills beat me in this race and I walked twice, at 5k and 8k. The hills are tough and a lot of hill training is required. The last 600 metres on the grass is tough. The air wasn't moving at all over that area and the heat was really intense.

This race is a challenge and I am pleased I did it. No medal but the t-shirt is great.

In short: Hot and Hilly
In full: Pleased to see the water station additions, but please heed the feedback on the end across the energy sapping grass, its blisteringly hot almost every year and fine tuning back on to the road is required. I also thought the guy on the PA was a little clubby, 'hes one of ours' is not very inclusive. Not too sure about the green goddess warm up lady either !

In short: I totally underestimated how challenging this course was!
In full: Also twisted my ankle! - my qualms are with myself rather than the organisers who did a fantastic job.
