In short: Poor show again with the T-shirts In full: Agree with others, with a few minor improvements this could be a special race, despite the school hall being a bonus there aren't enough toilets and for the last 4 years there haven't been enough L or XL t-shirts left towards the back. I finished in 63 minutes and there were only M left after queuing for nearly 10 minutes. Other races manage to crack the conundrum, just as well I already have a wardrobe full! The marshalls seemed a bit quieter this year as well. Other than that, :-), thanks and see you next year, hopefully I'll get that elusive t-shirt... Date of review: December 17, 2012
In short: a good winter race In full: A very crowded start and lines at the end to collect t-shirts.Excellent marshalls throughout. A very well organised event , just the job for this time of the year! Lovely running weather - more please next year. Date of review: December 17, 2012
In short: Great marshalling but some little things that could have been done so much better In full: I thought the marshalls out on the course were great, especially towards the end. Unfortunately that's about all I've got good to say on this one I'm afraid. Nothing major but not difficult things to get right: 1. Try and get the distance right - this is a basic requirement and there were no reasons this couldn't have been achieved 2. Make sure you have enough of the t-shirt sizes. One small observation. You do tend to get larger runners towards the back and hence the need for L and XL sizes will be greater as us slower/bigger runners come in (I'm sure I put what size i was on my entry to, so this should be easy to manage). 3. Too much of a bottle neck around the sports hall - collecting numbers, toilet queues. May the number collection could have been done outside so people could spread out more. Not the easiest to sort but worth a bit more thought. Perhaps send them out and that solves the problem. The cost of entry is more than sufficient on this one.
In short: Decent race In full: The weather was spot on for racing..... talking to a few ppl at the end small point but worthy of noting for those PB chasers ...the course prob needs a remeasure. Came in at 10k + 120m bonus which doesn't sound like much - but equates to around 25 seconds at 40min pace! :-) ... obviously room to move start and still have natural finish at school - all in all a very friendly and well organised race. In short: Good pre Christmas run, smashing marshalls - they make the race. In full: Only little niggle that only medium t-shirts where left for the slow runners at the end. Otherwise no complaints at all. Date of review: December 16, 2012
In short: Great course with PB potential In full: Great course, great race.
On the whole I agree with some of the points made about queues for the toilet and the delayed start on a cold day. My other observation is it seemed hard to get out of the sports hall for the start of the race. A large number of people all trying to get out in the last few minutes led to congestion.
In fairness I am being a little critical. I thought the race was superb and will certainly look toward running it again next year. It was the 5th time for me, but with a 5-7 year(ish) gap. Date of review: January 12, 2012
In short: Excellent organisation for a small race In full: Only in NYC marathon have I not had to queue longer than 5 minutes for a toilet. You queue for toilets when at races, get over it or go in a bush! Hardly a point that the organisers can adjust on such a low entry fee. But, I noticed a few drivers nearly knock down runners behind me. I think road closures in a quite area wouldn't go a miss. If not possible, then there needs to be a strong think about insurance premiums vs. claims! Splendid day out indeed. Will be back next year! Date of review: December 19, 2011
