In short: 5k yes 10k no In full: Taken part in this event as its a charity i chose to support. It was not very well organised, not many signs up to tell us how far round we were and the marshals didnt really know where on the 10k we were at. Its a beautiful park but crossing into the other means crossing the road, and there were too many taking part to do 10k. In all a 5k would be fine but not 10k. Hope it is better in 2009. In short: Just not getting any better. In full: Although a better route than last year (not stuck entirely in the park)this still left a lot to be desired particularly when the route map showed that the final 5K was just a lap around the park on the road and turned out to be another trawl through the park, and around a random road so you had no idea where you were going for the final 2/3K.
Progress at certain points hindered by people walking three abreast across the road. If you want to walk the whole course move over to one side or stay at home.
Didn't enjoy being yelled at by marshalls particularly at the end and the "timings" were a shambles.
Also usual problem of not a big enough runners only area so you had to fight through everyone's husbands/kids/grannies/dogs to get out.
5k should start before or after the 10K.
Interesting to note that about twice as many women did the race for life in Birkenhead Park also held on same day... Date of review: May 12, 2008

In short: Great day with picnic in park at the end! In full: A hot day, which meant pb's were difficult to achieve. Support from family and friends fantastic though.
Only gripe - at the end of the 10k, I ran into a wall of walking 5k / 10k competitors, as the course converged. It was ok, but had to take a longer route to get to the finish and in the heat it was a bit soul destroying! Could the 5k start at a different time to the 10K? Date of review: May 12, 2008

In short: What a Scorcher! In full: Well, I wouldn't CHOOSE to run in 25 degree heat, but this was a very friendly race, pretty flat and with a really fun warm up at the start! The water station was well manned, the lids were off and the marshalls were encouraging. The crowd was a bit sparse at times, but many more people willing us on to the end. The loss of the timing chip meant that many women were pushing to the front and jostling for position initially, but I didn't find I was being held up too much. The goody bag was ok and the medal is lovely, but the T-shirt has been better in previous years. Still, a great day enjoyed by all our family! My girls did the Bullybusters funrun beforehand and both got a PB! My youngest burst into tears she was "so happy"!!! Date of review: May 11, 2008

In short: Looking forward to next year In full: First ever 10k. Thought there would be more runners - 2109 according to the results. Thought it was all good except for the bottle necks which happened a few times and people walking side to side in groups of two-three through these narrow areas making it difficult to over take. Goody bag was great as was T-shirt, just a little big though, serves me right for finishing so slow!! Date of review: May 29, 2007

In short: enjoyable experience, hope they organise it better for 2008 In full: I have done this race 6 times and the organisation could have been better. The bottlenecks were a real problem if you were trying to do a PB. I only knopw there were 2 goody bags from posts here, wonder what was in the second one? Overall I enjoyed it despite the complaints Date of review: May 17, 2007
