In short: Great hilly course with beautiful scenery In full: I was very nervous before this race mainly as some of my club were teasing me about Cardiac Hill. Once I started and got past the first mile, I really enjoyed the challenging terrain from 2 to 3.5 miles. Once Cardiac Hill was past me I really got into my stride and found much to my delight that I got a personal best. Fantastic time, next year I plan to bring a few of the club. Well done Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: well organised, friendly, v challenging course! In full: congrats to all involved for organising and marshalling an excellent race. really friendly marshalls who were encouraging without being OTT. Having run the 3 Joydens Woods races this year i'd had good hill training and was pleasently surprised at how relatively easy Cardiac Hill was. But those hills at the end were quite tough. Back next year to go for sub 40 mins. Date of review: September 12, 2007
In short: A great morning out for the 'tartsntrout' unoffical Romney Marsh running clurb! In full: As members of the 'tartsntrout' unoffical running club members, from flat Romney Marsh, this was an interesting run.
Was worried as it was our first real off road run but loved it. Also concerned over veritgo and nose bleeds as Romney Marsh is as flat as a pancake!
Came near the back but managed to beat a couple of club runners who normally are in front of us.
Marshalls were great and it was nice to see that the organisers did not start taking the clock and finish down before the back runners had finished.
One marshall did offer to pace us up a hill but we declined as we knew our pace was either slow or stop!
The hills did not put us off as we will do this again next year. May be a bit of hill training might help.
Thanks to every one that put this together. Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: Top drawer off roader In full: 4th year in a row, and it's still the same excellent race, with a few improvements. I have no idea how people claim to have got lost this year as it was excellently sign posted and marshalled. Those people only came in 3 or so minutes after me so that's a mystery. Always have visions of running Caridac and Heartbreak hill but it never happens :/ Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: A great morning out In full: It's a very special race for me, this one - the first I did.
Two and a bit years on, I'm still running, and I've come across nothing as friendly and pretty as Shorne Woods. You won't break a pb, you won't run faster than you've ever run before and you won't ever get into a metronomic rhythm. You could, I suppose, do all of those things on a deserted airstrip somewhere or on a remote industrial estate, but why would you want to?
What you'd gain in speed, you'd lose in scenery and atmosphere. Shorne is up and down hills (largely up, it feels, to be honest!) and along trails. It's a short drive from London, and feels like the heart of the countryside. The people are great and the whole thing leaves you with a smile on your face.
Like I say, you can go to loads of places and get flat, dull, quick courses. Just for once though, try this race, and find a side to running that, if you live in a large town (as I do) you might otherwise never experience. You won't regret it. Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: oh that last hill In full: First time since 2004, sun out again. Excellent encouraging marshals. I really enjoyed this race, it wasn't easy, yet that makes it interesting. I got a great sense of achievement running up those hills (even though i was overtaken by the walkers on the way down. Roll on next year Date of review: September 9, 2007
In short: Pleasantly suprised In full: This was my first off road race so was a little nervous about it, but had no reason to and suprised myself but getting a half decent time for me, lots of downs and ups, cardiac hill wasnt as scary as I thought it would be, I thought the final three ups on the last mile a killer. Excellent organisation, really supportive marshalls, a great race. Lovely medal and cakes too. Date of review: September 9, 2007
