In short: Legendary race, not for the faint hearted. In full: 5th Picnic Marathon completed. Thanks Dr Rob and ure fab marshals. Top team, top race and top day. See you in 2018 for Number 6. Date of review: June 28, 2016
In short: If there's a tougher marathon in Britain, I'd like to hear of it. In full: Oh what a race, oh what a day. My fourth outing at Dr Rob's Picnic Marathon and it shan't be my last. An incredibly challenging race up and down and down and up and up and up and down...steps, steps and more steps, inclines and declines requiring the support of tree stumps and branches and the most glorious views and comradery.
You simply must enter this race, you've two years to train for it!
In short: Great Day - wonderful marshals and spirit from fellow runners In full: Stating the obvious; this is mega tough. I had to dig very deep into my Grrrrrrrrr reserves. So chuffed to have finished. A special thank you to all the kind, generous and motivating marshals. Great atmosphere and great medal, glass and T shirt. Will remember this experience for years to come. Thanks Rob; until next time :) Tom Date of review: June 27, 2016
In short: OMG I hurt! In full: This has got to be the hardest race i've ever took part in. To finish was an achievement in under 6 hrs made it even better. I look forwards to the next one in 2 yrs time :) Date of review: June 27, 2016
In short: Fastastic race as always In full: Great atmosphere, beautiful course and friendly marshals, runners and organiser - thanks Dr Rob! The new start is good but miss the downhill finish. Only criticism is the extra hill Date of review: June 26, 2016
In short: That hurt! In full: I signed up for Picnic having done the (half marathon) Munro last year so I knew what to expect but to say it hurts muscles you didn't know you had doesn't do it justice. As with all Trionium races it's friendly with great runners and marshals and great souvenirs (pint glasses this year) as well as the medal and T-shirt. Did I mention it really does hurt? In short: Yep. Gotta be the hardest marathon in the UK In full: An off road course of 26+ miles, 6000ft of assents & 6000ft descents around Box Hill. Some mud, some slippery paths & over 1400 steps. Throw in hot sunshine & thunderstorms. One hell of day. You'll ache everywhere. Completing this bad boy is a special thing. Date of review: June 26, 2016
In short: Lives up to its billing! In full: After many years marshalling at the race I finally plucked up the courage to run the damn thing. Yes it's tough but some types of pain can be pleasurable! Had a great day out and what made it for me was the friendliness and community feel of the race. A Real spirit of "we're all in it together" and lots of encouragement from the fellow runners. Lots of water stops mean you can run light and concentrate on your run. Yes there were a few navigational issues but runners have a responsibility to read the course instructions and not run blind in a race like this. Overall a grand day out. Date of review: June 26, 2016
