In short: Poorly organised fun run In full: This is one of the poorer 10km races I have run. It is basically a 'fun-run' that sees a lot of local people run as part of work-teams etc.
In theory, it could and should be a very good race. The issue is that the start of the course is ridiculously narrow. This, coupled with the fact that the organisers offer no attempt to ensure quicker runners start towards the front, and slower runners towards the back, means that the course bottle-necks for the first 4km. By the time things thin out, if you have been at all affected, any hope of a decent time is long gone. This is a shame because it is actually a very, very quick course. After the initial ascent around the golf-course, it is all either flat or down hill.
An easy fix would be to start people in waves, 5 or some minutes apart. It would make it all so much easier and more enjoyable.
The atmosphere is very good however, and the locals come out in large numbers to cheer you on.
Overall though, it feels like an event that is organised by people who don't run in these sort of races. That's probably the reality, but it's a frustrating that this could be an excellent event, with just a few tweaks.
In short: Great event. Narrow track at beginning. In full: Being a local race, this is the second time I have run it, this time with a PB. Having said that this track makes hard work for a PB - not becuase of the terrain (which is mostly gentle), but because the track for the first half of the race is narrow (which makes overtaking difficult unless you are near the front). Having said that the scenery is great, the atmosphere has a great local feel and I'll definately be back for the third year on the trot next year. Date of review: April 14, 2009
In short: An enjoyable scenic race as long as you can pass on the narrow tracks. In full: A very enjoyable race that I'd recommend. As long as you can start near the front you can post a respectable time, but the track around the golf course gets too narrow for passing in places, notably on the inclines (where people were walking after 3km). Otherwise, highly recommended- the last km through the park is one of the nicest I've run. Date of review: April 12, 2009

In short: Great race through all the parks and around the golf course In full: I really enjoyed this race, relatively traffic free up and around the golf course doen and along the parks in and out of the canal paths finishing in a buitifully well kept public park. great Date of review: April 7, 2009
In short: 2nd time completing the course. A well organised race, managed a PB! A reasonable goodie bag and medal, but a shame about the lack of toilets at the start . Well marshalled and good crowd support. Date of review: April 6, 2009
