In short: Pleasant country lanes and a new PB In full: My second 10k and nearly three minutes off my PB, so have a positive view of this race. Undulating course but not too challenging. Unfortunately the organisation let it down a little - no map with the race instructions or confirmation of what race I'd joined. Still, I enjoyed the low key atomosphere and sunny morning, the start was good as well as we took over the road for a while. Date of review: April 19, 2005
In short: Marshalling??? In full: I drove quite a distance to run and was on for a pb at 7km! What happened to the marshalling?? Myself and many other runners went the wrong way - I also witnessed another runner coming back from a wrong turn earlier in the race and there was a marshall on that corner - not sure how she managed not to direct him in the right way! In short: Unfortunately organisation was a shambles with confusion over route & mix up between 5k and 10k races taking place at the same time. This resulted in a signifcant number of competitors either giving up or adding unwanted distance. In full: A shame about the organisation. Assuming this is sorted out next time quite a challenging and low key race Date of review: April 19, 2005
In short: Could have been better organised In full: No instructions sent with number so unclear what to epect on arrival. Pre-race briefing quite long winded while we stood in the cold. Not enough signs or marshalls. HOWEVER, reasonable course, reasonable changing facilities and OK atmosphere. Date of review: April 18, 2005
In short: Poor marshalling - runners going off course. In full: Statig at the Race Breifing that "you turn left here and go right there" is not a substitute for marshalls and/or directional arrows.
I found myself running in about 22nd place when the runners in front of me ran past an unattentive marshall and were called back, loosing about thirty seconds each. I then found myself and a string of runners behind heading into Corsham town centre and cutting through the sports centre car park to get to the finish and probably ran near to 11K.
Being my first race of 2005, I was not a happy bunny. Date of review: April 17, 2005
