In short: Forgot how tough this one was! In full: did this one last year, didn't remember it being quite so hard. That said the scenery made up for it and the organisation was faultless. Loads of marshalls on the course, 2 water stations and as it was the 10th anniversary we all got a good quality commemorative medal. Nice village atmosphere with added bonus of cakes and beer at the end. In the village hall they announced four people over 75 had entered this race and some were still out on the course. As I went back to my car I passed the 80 year old who was just finishing - amazing. Date of review: November 5, 2014
In short: Very good event - and the rain held off! In full: Wonderfully undulating, challenging course that allows you to make the most of the downhills once the inclines have been negotiated, and a good downhill to the finish! Many thanks to Martin and Cathy Burke and all their volunteers for making this such a friendly event in the peaceful village of Beckley.
Lovely 10th Anniversary medal and generous provision of free beer, cakes and fruit at the end, most welcome. Will be on the calendar for next year. Date of review: November 3, 2014
In short: Great well run event. Super friendly. In full: Always a challenge as it is quite hilly. Very friendly and encouraging marshals. A well organised race and a lovely area to visit. Great children's race as well. With complimentary beer and home made cake and a lovely medal to all finishers what's not to like? Date of review: November 3, 2014
In short: Hills, hills and then more hills In full: The Marshals did a great job and were so encouraging. An awful lot of hills, would not recommend for anyone who hadn't done a fair bit of hill training. A flat/slight downhill last k - if you have anything left in your legs! Nice to stay dry in the village hall and use proper bathrooms. Beer and cake at the end ... yum! Date of review: November 3, 2014
In short: My first time for this challenging race. In full: This was certainly a challenging race, consistent dragging hills but nevertheless not insurmountable. It was great to run along quiet country lanes and any traffic encountered was unobtrusive. Lovely medal, and beer and cakes at the end! All kilometre markers in place. Very pleasant, helpful and friendly marshals.
This was a very friendly event despite the challenges of the course. Finished in 1:05:19, so 10.5 minute miling. Very pleased with that, considering I am getting back into running after a long layoff for deeply unhappy personal reasons. Well done to Martin and Cathy Burke and everyone involved (sorry you weren't able to be there, Martin and Cathy). This race will be in the calendar for next year. Date of review: November 3, 2013
