In short: a great race= thank you! In full: Do not beat yourselves up about the extra long second mile. It was not the end of the world and the coffee and cake at the end should have made everyone very happy. Not an easy route but well worth it! Date of review: October 23, 2011

In short: The Rugby 10 is a big race for me - my home town race. It was good to see it back on a course similar to the traditional course. I will always give this one a blast - the hills seem much easier to take that way. In full: The Rugby 10 is a big race for me - my home town race. I remember running this in race in November 1985 when for some strange reason a guy was calling out the time at the 2 mile mark; as I went past he was saying ... 9:44, 9:45. Not a bad 2 mile split time for a recreational runner in a 10 mile race. I finished that day with a time of 56:38 by the way. My team mate Dale Wood won the race with a course record time that stood for many years. This year's race started in Barby and went through to Kilsby then into Hillmorton via Kilsby Lane. Through Hillmorton then down Barby Lane back to Barby where we went through the village and did a loop out to Kilsby finishing back in Barby. There were three uphill bits. The hill into Hillmorton, Cart Hill and the hill at the finishing mile back from Kilsby to Barby. I went off reasonably quickly on the downhill first mile. I was determined to make the most of the downhill bits. I actually went through 5 miles in 33:48 which is only 8 seconds slower than my PB for 5 miles. I lost a couple of minutes on the hills on the second half of the race but that was not enough to push my time back that much. I worked hard using the runners around me as inspiration to keep running hard. I was mentally up for this one as well, kind of thinking the fatigue away with some positive thinking. I finished with a PB time for my racing as a veteran - 69:29. Oh yes, a couple of lovely ladies who inspire me to do great things were running - great to see them. I also met a chap called Greg from Napton who suggested I do the Run to the Beat in South London next year for a bit of fun. Date of review: November 21, 2010

In short: Scenic and Challenging! In full: My third Rugby Ten and my third different route raced at this event.
Enjoyed the challenge this year, the route was spot on with rural country lanes and plenty of hills to test all but a small friendly field of around 180 making it not too crowded.
I couldn't suggest one improvement to this event, excellent value too. Date of review: November 1, 2010

In short: MY FIRST TIME AT THE RUGBY 10 AND REALLY ENJOYED IT In full: Now this is my type of race! Friendly, welcoming, not too overcrowded, rural, challenging course, plenty of parking with good facilities before and after. I prefer these smaller local races than the big city events. Much more enjoyable and no stress... just turn up and run! Date of review: November 1, 2010

In short: A lovely local race on a challenging course In full: These grass-roots events with 150-200 runners are just so pleasant. Plenty of rolling hills to give you a challenge, and well-supported by local clubs despite yesterday being XC league day for some. Date of review: October 31, 2010

In short: Don't Mind The Diversion, A Lovely Course In full: This was my second Rugby 10 and I enjoyed this course more than Draycote. The route went along some lovely country lanes as well as taking in some busy streets leaving the locals looking on bemused.
The race referee was excellent at the start giving a very thorough brief, this was followed by a silence for Remembrance Sunday before we were off.
The unexpected diversion caused a bit of havoc midway through but it was one of those things that you couldn't blame the organisers for. I suppose we almost got a full 10 miles in the end. Fair play again to the race referee who was on hand at the end to approach runners and apologise.
Whatever the venue is next year I will be back. Date of review: November 11, 2009

In short: Unfortunate diversion for some, but a pleasant race nevertheless In full: The inadvertent diversion on the busy A428 was apparently caused by a policeman wanting to stop runners from interrupting a Remembrance Sunday service. It added about 400m to the course, which was disappointing and a bit bizarre as racers dodged the traffic, but didn't spoil the race that much.
Other than that it was a pleasing race using much of the old 10 mile course before it headed to the currently out of service Draycote. Runners needed to save some reserves as the final 3K or so was all uphill, but they had been pampered by an easy first 6-7km.
Little in the way of extras but marshals were enthusiastic and clearly desperate to keep the race on track when the diversion occurred.
I'd suggest if the race uses this course next year, that the event start at around 09 to 09:30, as by 11:30 the A428 is pretty busy with cars heading to shops presumably and not really suitable for racing. Date of review: November 10, 2009
