In short: Bit of a brute, but really enjoyed it! In full: Challenging run through some glorious scenery, not that I really had chance to enjoy the views! Thank you organisers and marshalls you put on such a good, enjoyable, well organised (quite painful) day. Coffin Trail half way marker was so cruel (but unfortunately true!). Thanks guys! In short: Brilliant event in picture perfect countryside In full: I ran this just 6 days after doing the London Marathon and what a contrast. From the awesome to the sublime. Running conditions were near perfect and the route covers a mix of terrain but mostly good, some wonderful grassy sections past tarns with panoramic views of the Lakeland mountains and a couple of slightly rough descents. There are three longish climbs including the Coffin Trail, manageable if challenging.
Marshalling is good and friendly and the route was wil marked all the way round. A great day!! Date of review: April 29, 2012

In short: Smiling in the rain In full: In all my visits to the Lakes I’ve never been to the quaint little village of Hawkshead or it’s surrounding area, and what a delight this was! As usual this Lakeland event was easy to find & parking wasn’t an issue has they’d commandeered a very large field for the occasion. Unfortunately the grey day - as anticipated - turned to drizzle, which certainly dampened the party spirit and curtailed the usual build-up. The route though lived up to its promise and turned out to be another beautiful Lakeland trail. This one is very undulating, and feels like two short fell races back to back, taking us up and around Claife Heights, down to the lakeside of Windermere and back up the aptly named ‘coffin trail’ before the final descent to the finish. Whilst it was a shame the low clouds masked the mountainous views there was still plenty to look at on the tops. My device too measured it at 10.48 miles. And well done to the marshals. The organisers have put the prices up, and the £26 fee is almost as steep as some of the terrain, but next year I’ll get my entry in early and do all three in the Spring series. The Lakeland Trails are the highlight of my running calendar. Date of review: May 14, 2011

In short: Exhilarating ! In full: Everything was sodden which meant it wasnt much fun for the kids. There was supposed to be a bouncy castle but the rain must have put a stop to that. Also - we missed the kids race as there was a bit of a queue for the ferry so that didnt help. Once the race got going it was fantastic. First mile was OK then up, up and up; scenary was very varied and once you popped out of the forest at the top it was lovely. Some steep downhill bits and the loose rocks were tricky and my feet were a bit sore afterwards. The kids tucked into the Kendal mint cake broken bits at the end which made amends - fantastic. In short: Tough but great fun In full: First time i have done this race and hopefully not the last. A great course with one or two challenges that make you work.My Garmin also said it was over 16k not 15k but still enjoyed it. The rain made it more interesting but made the coffin trail so slippy that one or two men had to grab me before i fell.Cant wait to do the Keswick trail now in september. Date of review: May 10, 2011

In short: My 3rd year and a PB by 11 mins! Great kids run made for a superb family day out too - capped by winning Puma Nightfox in the prize draw... In full: Fantastic event set in stunning scenery of real contrasts. Took family up again and despite the rain it was a superb family day. The kids trails help massively in this respect. Achieved a new PB and will definitely be back next year! Date of review: May 10, 2011
