In short: Good race - great place to finish. Two bad points - long walk back to car park and secondly the mile markers awere badly out this year and need to be right for next year. Date of review: December 12, 2007
In short: This race is worth running. In full: This race is worth running. Well organised and good control of traffic. The only thing I would say was that I was rather unimpressed with the tacky medal and no goodie-bag, ehh? Date of review: December 10, 2007
In short: It's definitely a challenge, but a change from chasing PBs on flat coursess In full: I did the Hogsback 2 years ago and enjoyed it enough to do it again. However, the same two problems haven't been resolved: the mile markers are way out of kilter; and there seems to be a resistance to telling racers how much further than 8 miles the course is. Combine these and judging your sprint finish requires either an excellent knowledge of Loseley Park or a wild guess. Date of review: December 10, 2007
In short: Too much on roads for me In full: I know this is a long-standing race but I hadn't expected so much of it to be on roads with no footpaths.
Organisation generally good except for signage. There really could have been far more at both the car parks near the start, eg. pointing towards the start along with an indication that there were toilets there also. Where was race HQ? To comply with the race permit the route map should be on display along with the permit itself. It would be picky to say these affect the race but I really did feel that the start area could have been better signed and advertised. I'm afraid that at the finish too there was no way of knowing where the bags were.
It could be better with only a small amount of thought.
Many many thanks to all the marshals and other officials and helpers out there in such horrible conditions. Without them, there are no races. Date of review: December 10, 2007
In short: Christmas present of a race!!! In full: Always a pleasing and enjoyable event. Like getting an early Christmas present! ... weather looked ominous but stayed away long enough to get the race over and done with. As always a challenging and testing course with the reward of spectacular views from the top!!! ... roll on the 49th running and hopefully something more spectacular for the 50th!!! ... Well done to the organisers and a special thank you to the marshals that braved the elements on our behalf Date of review: December 10, 2007
In short: Good fun, weather ok, not too steep and roads not too busy! In full: Slightly odd-looking start (as runners have to be backed into a field ready to be unleashed onto the roads) but it was all well-organised and straightforward. The start -> finish 'bag carry service' worked great (nice to be able to put clothes on at the finsh before trudging the mile back to the car parks!). the climb is challenging but fair.
