In short: Muddy trail rather than road race. In full: This is the third time that I have done this race and the organisers definitely got the finish right this year. The actual course seemed muddier than previous years but I still managed a pb! Despite the mud, the course is flat except for a small hill near the end. Date of review: January 30, 2009
In short: Muddy fun In full: Well organised and friendly race in a nice part of the world. Track was a bit rough in places but pretty flat throughout. Great scones at the end. Nice start to the racing year and would definitely come back again. (Host website has been down this week but results are up on scottish athletics site) Date of review: January 26, 2009
In short: More chaotic this year than usual, but still friendly & fun In full: More of a LandRover track race than a road race, with a nice soggy yet stony route. Nice atmosphere, peaceful middle-of-nowhere route (apart from beginning & end).
Website http://www.buchlyvie10k.co.uk/ appears to be have been down for a few days, so it's unclear how we're going to find out the results: if anyone knows what they are, could they please post a link here? Ta. Date of review: January 26, 2009
In short: Muddy In full: Local race for me so happy to run. The 1st km is downhill before you turn off for the muddy, single file, uneven track. Well done for changing the end to stop just before the very muddy field. Enjoyed the run - just bring a change of clothes!! Date of review: January 25, 2009
In short: Muddy Multi-terrain race. Good fun in the mud! In full: A good multi-terrain out and back along a muddy and loose stony covered dis-used railway line. The first 1km or so downhill is on a road, turn off onto the MUD...out and back on the old railtrack through Flanders Moss (the clue is in the name..its gonna be wet!!), then back out onto the road for an uphill finish at the rear of Buchlyvie school. Thank goodness this year they had decided to ditch the run around the waterlogged footie pitch to the finish!!
Hard going on the legs after a few miles of rocky mud and would strongly recommend trail shoes for this one. As other people have said before me, this is definitely not a 'road' race. But I would recommend this race for some good muddy fun, just make sure you come prepared with change of clothes / shoes etc.
Oh and the fruit scones in the village hall were excellent!! Nice t-shirt with runners names on it, and a decent goody bag with all you need, bag of crisps, mars bar, piece of fruit, bottle of water. Well Done Buchlyvie! Date of review: January 25, 2009
In short: Buchlyvie always puts on a good race! In full: Enjoyable, mixed terrain 10k. Possibly the nicest race t-shirt I've ever had the pleasure of receiving. The circuit of the muddy pitch was a nightmare, although not as bad as the half Marathon when we had to go round twice! Date of review: February 4, 2008
