In short: A killer of a course, and some challenging conditions, but well worth it.
In full: As someone who uses Arthur's Seat as a training run, I was already well aware of what the course could be like on a bad day. Unfortunately, that wind coming around the top still took me a bit by surprise. For me, the biggest let-down was the fact that there were the two finishes - 5K and the 5.2K one. Having not received my pre-race info, I did not know that there would be the two finishes, causing me to slow down to a crawl as I tried to ask one of the stewards at that marker what was going on. I missed out on my PB by 2 seconds as a result. I was pretty gutted. Still, it's a friendly race, and it gives the new year a good kick start, so I will definately be there next year.

In short: Has the potential to be the runners equivalent of the Monaco of the North.

In short: Great kick-start to the year!
In full: I really enjoyed this one, in spite of the wind. The hill was less steep than I'd feared it might be, and I narrowly missed a PB at the 5k mark. Really liked the long-sleeved t-shirt, decent goody-bag and a nice, chunky medal. A really good atmosphere at the start too. I'm definitely doing this one again next year, and looking forward to the 10k in May too.

In short: 400 mile round trip to do it - my first Great run of the year
In full: wasnt well signposted around the area for the non-local who doesnt know where holyrood park is, good job there was plenty of fluorescent kit about to follow. seemed pandemonium in dynamic earth - again no signposts where to get my tshirt from, then to find the start of the race was a test again no signposts - come on guys we aint mindreaders. MORE SIGNPOSTS REQ - once at the start the organisation was tops - very good. race was excellent a very testing hill with strong winds to contend with. beautiful scenery but it was heads down to move through the wind - over with a bit too quickly for me - i would have preferredd this to be another 10k - perhaps twice around - as its along way to go for a 5k and being short distance probably put a few people off. tshirt is very good and longsleeved also good - medal is very nice - dont know what happened to the guys who didnt get one mine was in the bag and i didnt check it til i got home other wise i would have been well miffed!! will i do it again? probably not as i had a 400 mile round trip and an overnight stay to sort which really bumps up the cost!! looking forward to the 10k and marathon in may though

In short: Very windy but otherwise fun.
In full: The weather was against this race from the start, with a very strong wind that hit you just as you finished climbing the main hill of the course! Also a few issues with the baggage storage - to get in you had to be wearing your race number, but there was only someone checking this at one of the two entrances!

In short: Great race and wonderful scenery.
In full: I found this to be an excellent race; it was my first race after several years lay off due to injury and plain laziness. I decided to start nearer the back but found it quite frustrating for the first couple of kilometres trying to pass groups of walkers. Once at the top of the hill the scenery was fantastic and made all the effort well worth it. The down hill section for me was fun and as one other runner stated was like being a kid again. The goody bag was fine and the medal was very nice (although a lot of runners seem to have been missing their medal). The T-shirt was fairly cheap with sleeves that don’t seem to be long enough for my Urangutan arms (I personally would have preferred short sleeves). Overall I found it to be a most enjoyable race and will definitely be doing it again next year. I’m now looking forward to the 10k in May.

In short: Tough but very enjoyable start to the year
In full: Had a great time and the use of Dynamic Earth for meeting up at the start was excellent. Not as well organised at the start as the 10k in May - good runners and beginners all mixed in together leading to a bit of a congested start. Fine after the 1KM marker.

In short: Loved it, but the WIND!!!
In full: The organisation of the 5k / 5.2k finish was not clear - someone told me I had finished when I hadn't, adding 3 minutes to my time...! Otherwise a great day.
