In short: Pleasantly surprised In full: Was a rainy morning but thankfully cleared up however meant running with a jacket. Great atmosphere, lots of people in fancy dress. The queues to collect your chip and number was a bit confusing from the back so ended up in the wrong queue but wasn't too much of an issue. Managed to use the loos in the hospital and avoid the long queues for the portaloos, quite a few people were doing this. Race itself was good, lots of support throughout the whole course and lots of marshals. I'd researched where the hills were so had a race plan in mind and this worked well. Goody pack and water at the end and nice quality medal. Parking was free at the hospital. Only issue was results took a long time to come back and my chip didn't register so didn't get my time, I contacted the timing company as it says to but not heard anything back. I managed to work it out from the videos of the race in the end. Photos of the race were good. Overall really enjoyed it and will take part again next year. Date of review: May 18, 2015
In short: Always a pleasure In full: An excellent local 10Km - for a great cause too. Liked the introduction of chip-timing. Well done to those who helped to put on this event. Roll on next year.. Date of review: June 1, 2012
In short: Good Race In full: It was a very nice race. I struggled to drink water from a plastic cup at speed at the water station but the atmosphere rivalled the bigger events and it's a very worthy cause. Date of review: May 7, 2012
In short: Well organised - and for a good cause In full: Having a short fun run prior to the 10k made this a really good family event with a lovely atmosphere. And hopefully the hospital has made a shedload of dosh from it!
Despite the hills, I managed to take over 30 seconds off my PB, and the long downhill bits meant I was able to get 2 consecutive sub-4 minute kilometres - another first!
The only thing I would change would be the start - getting people to join from the front means too many "tortoises" at the front getting trampled and bumped, however the wide Portsmouth Road gave plenty of space to overtake.
Excellent medal, but a very sparse goody bag, but I would rather the money go to the baby unit rather than tat. Date of review: May 6, 2012
In short: A decent 10K In full: Hard to say that much about this race. Apart from a congested start, organisation was good. Course was a bit more undulating than I expected, but nothing too difficult. Marshalls could have been a bit cheerier. I ran to get a benchmark 10K time for the start of the spring/summer, and would do so again. Date of review: May 6, 2012
