In short: I loved this race, will certainly be back. In full: I did the infamous Coniston 14 the day before (Coniston 17 this year!). However the race that I will remember from this weekend will be this Grizedale Forest Trail. It's likely that I'll return to do Coniston again, but absolutely certain that I'll do Grizedale again. I loved this race. One of those small races that only a few seem to know about that are a real pleasure to take part in. The hills are very steep and you are either going up one or down one. The scenery is absolutely spectacular. Other runners will have come to the Lake District and thought that they had seen the scenery at Coniston, but the views from the top of Grizedale were just something else. The finish was a nice touch, where you were given a memento mug, that you then had filled with tea and also had a choice from a wide assortment of large delicious cakes. Atmosphere was very friendly. Forget personal bests, this is a race just to take part in, enjoy and chat to fellow runners afterwards over your tea and cake. This is my favourite race of the year so far. It's a shame that overall scores for this race will clearly be let down by lack of PB potential, because you don't do this race for that reason. Hope to be back next year. In short: It doesn't get any better than this!!! In full: What a fantastic place to hold a race. Good firm tracks through a lovely forest with the beautiful Lakeland fells in the background. The hills are not for the faint-hearted, particularly the stretch from two and a half to four miles, but the stunning scenery more then makes up for the hard work, and that view at six miles - WOW!! The whole event was brilliantly organised, with the course well marked, and a nice memento and free food and drink at the finish. A sensible start time too, which permits a Sunday lie-in and allows time to travel. After this, other races will never seem quite the same again. Top marks to the organiser for laying on a superb event!! Date of review: March 29, 2010

In short: Cracking run, superb views In full: Good conditions, sunny and cold, bit breezy, fine in road shoes, most clocked the distance at around 9.5, but worth 10+!! All hills are runnable, pleased to clock 69.29, will be back next year to run harder now I know what to expect :-) Could do with a course profile, I had read about the early hills, but the one at 8 miles + was a real surprise. It would be useful to have this one on the Sunday and the Coniston 14 the following Saturday, so I could take in both in a weeks holiday, Coniston was the day before, although some hard core did both!! Tea and coffee at the end most welcome!! Date of review: April 3, 2009

In short: A great friendly race in fantastic suroundings In full: The fantastic views of the Langdales and Howgills just make you smile as they come into view. This is what it's all about. The hills are runnable and the atmosphere excellent. Great weather conditions always help too. The water station was a pleasant and welcome suprise. It would make a good permanant feature. Nice to see the number of people using this as their first try at trail races...keep it up. It just gets better. Date of review: April 2, 2009

In short: A challenging but gloriously scenic race In full: A challenging but gloriously scenic race helped by lovely weather. Ran in road shoes with no problem. After a flat first couple of miles i sort of expected the hills. As someone said it is the Lakes!Just two suggestions. The mug of tea was lovely at the end but some clean fresh water [not cloudy and out of an open bucket]would also be welcome, and a course map as well.Superb day though. Back next year. In short: Lots of runnable uphill and views to sweat at In full: Don't be fooled by it going downhill for the first 2 miles, it felt uphill the rest of the way. However I did manage to run it all (1hr21) and the views are great. Date of review: March 31, 2009

In short: Fantastic Trail Race in the Lakes In full: What a great race! I'd been introduced into taking this race by a mate of mine who raved about previous events. This time, the start had been moved further up the hill, which meant it came a bit later - not such a good thing for the runners I'm afraid! Great views of the hills - especially at the 7-mile point, which certainly helpd to keep morale going, and lovely fast down hill section later, which helped to balance out the pace from the earlier hilly section. Great idea of giving mugs, which were then filled with lovely hot sweet tea courtesy of Wilf! Will definitely do again. Date of review: March 30, 2009
