In short: All round superb
In full: Great route varying from woodland to moors, river valleys with the odd road for good measure. Well marshalled and ran, great food at CP and at end. I do enjoy LDWA events that welcome runners and the generally good underfoot conditions help to make this one of the best

In short: fabulous scenary, challenging but not overwhelming course
In full: Easy to follow route, superb route description and well formed trails make this off road event a great introduction to the migration from more structured road races to the thrills of the more unpredicatble off road challenge. Regular checkpoints, well stocked with cakes, tea and cheery volunteers break it down from 24 solid miles to a series of shorter runs. Beautiful views across the moors, reservoirs and valleys and some great descents to get those legs going. Save a little for the end and the jaunt along the pretty river wharfe back to the start. Everyone should do it as it is guarenteed to put a smile on your face for the whole year. Race report for 2008 is on my website, see my profile for details :)

In short: Great countryside, challenging but do-able
In full: A very varied course, some steep uphills, some long downhills and some nice flattish bits. Excellent cakes and drinks at the checkpoints, good navigational instructions (only went wrong once - not paying attention !) and good views / scenery all the way. I guess the weather can be a big player in the character of the race from one year to the next - this year saw a few boggy areas and minor streams to wade but mainly characterised by the wind - particularly strong in your face over the exposed drop from the top of Trollers Gill down to the river, but was happy with that compared to the torrential rain of the afternoon before which could have made it very uncomfortable. Would recommend it to anyone.

In short: Superb dales running/walking event
In full: Wholeheartedly agree with sentiments of other reviewers. There are plenty of off-roaders out there but not many offer quite the variety of backdrop this one does. Don't be put off if your a road runner though, this is one of the easiest off-road courses I've run. Climbs aplenty but usually steady and on reasonable paths, trails, tacks and roads. After twenty+ miles the 3 mile flat amble by the river at the end is well deserved.
