In full: This was my second year at Barton and is one of my faves, the first km up the steep hill is def challenge but I think helps get you through the rest as the then the worst is over, I hate carrying water on me so was pleased with the extra water station this year. Marshalls friendly and encouraging and the route is very scenic. Although a PB potential is unlikely it would be nice to have it chip timed rather than having your time written down when you finish. Overall I can't fault the organisers or the race in the slightest.

In short: Nice scenery, killer hill!
In full: I'd concur with the rest of the comments about the Barton 10k. There is a steep hill at the start, providing you can get through this, it is a nice trail through woodland and undulating fields that skirt between the shire's villages. It's a school fundraiser, numbers are limited, so take it as it is, but it is good value.(3)Water stations good. Marshalls friendly & encouraging. Signage patchy. Results, still no sign 2 days later. But I would do it again because I like the scenery, challenge of terrain, it's local & supports a good cause and is fairly low key.

In short: Lovely route but bottleneck at hill start
In full: The route goes through some lovely countryside. First 1km fairly steep uphill and then undulating over decent footpaths until the last 1k which is equivalent steep downhill. Overall I enjoyed it a lot and the friendly marshals were excellent. Unfortunately the 5k fun runners and 10k runners were set off at the same time with no expected finish time divisions so there was an immediate bottleneck caused by a number of people who had clearly planned to walk the hill from the beginning (fair enough) but chose to start at the front (not helpful). This made for quite a crush and it was hard to keep a decent pace on the up hill. We had good dry conditions but I really wouldn't have liked to tackle the final chalky downhill if it had been raining as I think it would be lethally slippery even in cross shoes. For that reason I will probably do this race again but would always look to enter on the day.

In short: nice race, helpful and friendly volunteers but if max entry is 500 there should be more than 200 goodie bags at the finish available if entry is also on the day. There wasn't enough goodie bags this year which I found disappointing.

In short: Hilly, fun and cheap 10k off road event.
In full: Good value for a 10k, no medal etc no but no issue.
Most of the course is off-road, some footpath but also some edges of fields etc. The odd section of tarmac. On the day I ran it was dry so decent road shoes were fine, if it's very muddy I would recommend trail shoes.
400 ft of climb in total. Basically first 1k is uphill and last 1k is downhill, with mild undulations in between.
Two or possibly 3 drinks stops.
I saved a bit for the final K but found it a waste, unless you're very experienced on hills you'll struggle to do much more than fall gracefully down the hill at the end. If you have anything left in the tank use if for 8-9km and then allow gravity to bring you home.

In short: flat? Really? still a great run
In full: This course is undulating/hilly not flat. The first hill is hard going. I did a lot of hill work in prep but it was still hard.
The last 3km aren't sign posted. I saw a 7km sign but no 8 or 9 k signs.
The marshals were very good. The water stops were nice and well placed.
The last kilometre is very dangerous. The gradient is unbelievably steep going down. The course is tight in places and the footing is not always good as it's been churned up by tractors and horses.
Still i really enjoyed it as my first 10k race ever and i look forward to doing it again next year.
I didn't receive a good bag at the end but all I really wanted was a certificate to prove i'd done the race.

In short: Good Race
In full: I enjoyed this race, the first time I have run the course. The marshalls were well placed and the two water stops were very much appreciated. The goody bag wasn't very inspiring, but the entry was a few quid cheaper than a typical 10k. The only recommendations I would make are more timely results (48 hours after and still nothing) and looking at the finish. The last few hundred metres are a bit tight and you have no idea when the finish is coming (ie no count downs in metres to finish). I was in a tight race so didn't know when I should give a final kick (if there was even space to pass). Well done to the organisers and hopefully you raised some good money for the school.

In short: Great well run event.
In full: Yes, certainly a challenging start but a great event with very friendly organisers. No frills and cheap, a 10K for less than £10. What a bargain. I'll be back next year.

In short: Best way to spend a Sunday morning
In full: This is the second year I have done this race and it's a pleasure (plus an absolute bargain). Given how great the course is I wonder why there are not more similar races organised in this part of the Chilterns. We are moving away from the area but I might drive back next year just to do this race.
