In short: Its tough!
In full: This run is well organised and runs like clockwork every year. The only criticism being they didnt post the results for over 24hours so if you werent timing yourself you didnt have a clue!

In short: Hill?... or a mountain?
In full: What a great race! This was a surprisingly very well organised race (surprisingly because its the residents that organise it rather than a running club - some lessons could be had here by some other clubs!). The route goes as follows: slight incline, round a bend, gets steeper, round another bend, gets steeper, runner looks up to see a wall of concrete, blinks a few times, realises its actually more road to run up (a 1-in-4 climb), digs in and just keeps going!!! The croud really helped at this point with their cheers of encouragement - possibly helped by the fact there is a pub just here to keep them interested! Despite the massive build up of lactic acid in the legs (they were very jellyfied) and the burning/freezing sensation in the throat and lungs I would definately do this again. Certificate is a nice change to a t-shirt or medal too. Bring on next year's!

In short: A unique race, you must do it
In full: This is a unique event, a great atmosphere with loads of crowd support. Nice touches include a certificate for everyone with name and time. Also for sale are DVDs of the race, t-shirts and other memorabilia. It brings all of the local community together who put so much into organising this event. Looking forward to next year already.

In short: Killer indeed - but a fantastic challenge!
In full: Wasn't a regular runner and did the 2005 race - aptly with number 118. Though I struggled through the ascent and was all but last, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience (once it was over)! But I'll do this race anytime if I have those dates free. You'd be positively enthralled or alarmed (at your madness) while going down the course after the race.

In short: A supremely tough & charming oddity. Everyone should do this once!
In full: The race is 1 mile long of which each & every yard is uphill - overall the course climbs 550' start to finish. Fantastic Tour-de-France style atmosphere on the big 1:4 by the Cheshire View pub. Great fun for spectators, and runners not afraid of severe oxygen debt and jelly legs. One of the most enjoyable and friendliest events I've ever taken part in but don't expect an average road-race and be prepared to run a VERY slow time! Beginners should not be put off by the climb - there are lots of barely-runners and doing-it-for-a-bet entrants as well as some hard-core hill freaks.
