In short: Very friendly, well organised relaxed race. In full: Third or fourth time I've done this and will do it again next year. This year seemed to have a lot more sponge stations than previously thankfuly. Very friendly, chilled out atmosphere and fellow runners. As a bonus it was just just down the road from the Chili festival for afters, ideal. Date of review: August 11, 2015
In short: Great atmosphere, great race In full: Everything about the Sturhalf was excellent, the organisation at the start and finish was military with a great little village and some yummy treats for afterwards. Great quality t-shirts shame about the lack of medal but cant expect too much for a bargain entry price! for a small race (380) this year it was extraordinarily well organised, the themed water stations are awesome and very frequent and made me smile as I went past.
the only downside was the weather - although you cannot blame the organisers for this! It did make the race challenging as there is no shade whatsoever and route is very exposed until 12.5 miles.
I didn't even notice the hill at the end, it is very gentle and as soon as you round the corner you're into shade and a downhill mile to the finish. what more could you want!
In short: Great race In full: My first time at this race. Plenty of toilets, good parking, plenty of water stations (thankfully! Was hot today), lovely t-shirt, great after food and drink selection on site, plenty of signage and marshals, undulating route-you won't get a PB but you will be glad you came. Fantastic value for money. Highly recommended. Date of review: August 2, 2015
In short: Excellent, as usual... Both the run and the value In full: Is this getting more hilly or is it me getting older....? Answers on a postcard please...
Easy parking....toilets at the start... plenty of water stations (plastic cups)... good atmosphere... very nice tee at finish of this definately well described as 'undulating' half. Date of review: August 2, 2015
In short: Great race In full: My 2nd time at the Stur Half was as good as the first. The event is fairly small but for a town the size of Sturminster I must commend the organisers for a pain free experience. The course is fairly flat apart from near the end where there are a few up-hill slogs, and for the most part you are running through glorious open countryside. The course is well manned by marshalls and the waterstations are always themed so top marks for that. I set my own PB at this year's event so it will hold a special place for me but I don't think this event is suitable for beginners just because of the smallish entry field. In short: A really enjoyable race on a great course. In full: I really enjoyed this race. It's the first time I've done it, but I know the area well so it was nice to run on familiar territory. I thought the organisation was really great including a brilliant website and loads of excellent marshals. Also great to have so many drink and sponge stations for a summer race and I loved the WWI themed volunteers. The course is slightly undulating and after mile 5 there is a very gradual incline - it took me a while to work this out! I treated this years race as a training run, but I'll be back to race it next year and well prepared for the hills at the end! Thanks to all involved - good work! Date of review: August 11, 2014
