In short: Hilly, but fun. Great value. In full: A hilly road race on the edge of Rochdale. The first 2 miles are a long slog uphill along the main road out of Norden. Fellow Mancunians may wish to note that the ascent in this portion is about the same as the height of Manchester's Beetham Tower. The view at the top would have been fantastic had I not felt like I needed a new pair of lungs.
The remaining 4 miles are mostly down, sometimes quite steeply, though there are a few short upward ramps in there to keep your muscles tingling.
As an unattached runner I was very much a minority in a small field of mostly club runners, but I felt welcome. Outside of parkruns it is one of the cheapest races I have ever entered and is tremendous value for money.
This Friday night race is the first of a "3 day event" run by Rochdale Harriers, with a mixed terrain course on the Saturday and a fell run on the Sunday. I only did this part of it but I will definitely be back to try the full thing next year. Date of review: July 14, 2013
