In short: A new milestone achieved. In full: No, not a new PB (though that would be welcome!), but this race was my inaugural barefoot event. No hideous Vibrams or so-called barefoot sandals, this was flesh and bone pounding the course tarmac road.
Had been working on the technique for ages and came through totally unscathed and with a respectable time, considering I had been out of action as regards regular running. Plenty of encouragement from both runners and spectators alike.
Many thanks once again to Martin and Cathy Burke for staging the event year on year. Friendly, supportive marshals and organisers, decent medal, and drink holder memento, nice touch that. Will be back next year, no doubt about it. Date of review: September 12, 2016
In short: Fabulous location for a race on a warm summer evening. In full: Definitely one of my favourite races. Running on a good surface through the desolate beauty of shingle and saltmarshes on a balmy summer evening just before sunset - it;s difficult to beat that. If you're also a wildlife enthusiast then there are bonus ratings for the curlews and other waders flying to and fro!
The course is flat - so it's definite PB material (I got my 10k PB by one second) but costal location does mean there's likelihood of running into some stiff a breeze at some stage of the run. Date of review: August 13, 2016
In short: Pancake flat 10k through Rye Harbour Nature Reserve In full: This is the third year that I have run at least one of the 10k races in the summer series. It is really enjoyable to run the traffic free, flat road through Rye Harbour Nature reserve. Although there is no chip timing, this isn't a problem because there is usually a smallish field of runners taking part. Nice medal and post race refreshments. Date of review: July 14, 2015
In full: Ran all three races again this year, there is somthing special about running through the reserve close to the sea late in the day. will do it all again in 2015,if you have not tryed it you should. Date of review: September 22, 2014
In short: poignant race for very personal reasons In full: Wonderful and deeply personal race for me. Excellent course and organisation, race only let down by the small turnout. Happy with my time, many thanks to Martin and Cathy Burke, and all who helped them to put the race on yet again. Thank you. Date of review: September 8, 2014
In short: Great for PB's In full: I did the whole series this year and each was run incredibly well even with the course issues beyond the organisers control. Nice flat run around the nature reserve with only the head wind from the sea to contend with at times. A nice summer evening series. Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: A quick course In full: A well organised race. It's a fast, flat course. Great if the wind isn't catching your side. Always a nice atmosphere here. Plenty of places to get a nice meal afterwards. Date of review: August 29, 2013
In full: as has been said before this is a well run friendly event, the out and back route is very flat . a long drive for me ,but you wont be sorry if you try one of the races in rye, recomended. Date of review: August 3, 2013
