In short: Organisers Comments
In full: All, thanks for braving the elements today, apologies for the long walk to the start, we had to get to the other side of the roadworks to make sure we didn't have congestion. Any constructive feedback welcomed as always. Regards, Tewkesbury AC

In short: Grotty weather, but not much can be done about that!!
In full: As a newbie runner having not done the race before, there seemed very little info. I didn't know there were 'momentos' and only discovered as I saw someone with one as I was about to leave. Also wasn't too keen on a mile walk to and from the start / finish.
Found it to mainly club runners. Haven't a clue what the 'briefing' was, or what was said at the start.
Served its purpose for me as I wanted the run, but not sure I'd want to do it again.

In short: Great low-key, well organised race
In full: A few of us did this last year and enjoyed it so we came back again this year despite it being over an hours drive away. It's a no frills, mainly club runners race and is well worth the journey. The organisation was smooth, marshals friendly, and the cakes at the end were great again. Will no doubt be back next year. I only have one criticism and that's the congestion at the start. One guy fell in the stampede but I don't know what could be done about this apart from chip timing perhaps ?

In short: Notes from the Race Organisers
In full: All, Thanks for turning out again for the Guy Fawkes 5, weather was fantastic. If you have any constructive criticism's we would love to hear them. One point I will betaking away from this year is the lack of toilets, not sure how to address this, however we will have a think about it. Kind Regards - Tewkesbury AC

In short: In response to the points raised above
In full: Q: Where do we go for numbers?
A: These can be picked up in the Gymnasium of Tewkesbury School - Address is on the Entry Form.

Q: Where's the start?
A: The Start is approx 1/2 mile away from the School towards Tewkesbury.

Q: When should we go to the start?
A: Arrive at the start approximatley 10 Mins before the race starts for the briefing.

Q: Can we leave anything at the start?
A: Well yes, but at your own risk under a hedge.

Point: Giving numbers out in the hall works well but clearly post the categories A-D, E-J etc on the wall behind the desk, not on the desk itself to ease congestion.
Response: Agreed Proper signs ordered for 2011.

Point: Remove benches from the queuing area - they were dangerous.
Response: Agreed, will not make the same mistake this year.

Point: Provide more toilets.
Response: Unfortunatley we are limited by the school's resources.

Point: Make it clearer where the start is in relation to the school (not everybody knows this).
Response: Please see the course map below

Point: Order sufficient medals
Response: We had a selection of momentos in 2010, medals were the most popular, so will be ordering more this year

Point: Use some sort of PA system so those of us at the back of the hall could hear the winners' names.
Response: Will see on the day, depends on the announcer.

In short: Bit chaotic organisation but friendly. Suit all levels
In full: Organisers seemed to assume too much knowledge of previous events. Newbies to this event (like me) wandered about - Where do we go for numbers?: Where's the start? (about 1/2 mile away): When should we go to the start? Can we leave anything at the start? (At own risk under a hedge). Changing & Toilets? (both dire!)....

It really needs a look at, and maybe a "New to this Venue" item on the website or sent by email, particularly as it was possible to get VERY cold/wet before the race if you took the wrong decisions in ignorance. Overall the organisation was surprisingly amateurish for a decent-sized club.

At the start a garden bonfire smoked out the runners to some amusement given the name of the event. Once running it was a lovely course through lanes, with the only inclines across the motorway out & back. Clearly PB potential due to the distance (rarely run), fast field (so no bunching) and course profile. Here the organisation was good & marshalls encouraging.

Food & drink back at the school was excellent. Having a choice of memento was inspired - I found it hard to decide! Some runners complained of medals running out.

With a little more professionalism in the planning this could have been a brilliant end-of-season event. Hopefully, that will happen for next year.

In short: Good sharpener for your Sunday roast!
In full: The weather was much better than in 2009 and I thoroughly enjoyed the race again but I did find it less well organised than last year. Suggested improvements:
1. Giving numbers out in the hall works well but clearly post the categories A-D, E-J etc on the wall behind the desk, not on the desk itself to ease congestion.
2. Remove benches from the queuing area - they were dangerous.
3. Provide more toilets.
4. Make it clearer where the start is in relation to the school (not everybody knows this).
5. Order sufficient medals.
6. Use some sort of PA system so those of us at the back of the hall could hear the winners' names.

On the plus side, the post-race refreshments were superb as was the choice of momento and the atmosphere was very friendly. With a few refinements this could be a 10 out of 10 race.

In short: Really enjoyable
In full: My only gripe is the queuing for the loo, excellent pre/post run food.

All the marshalls and anyone we saw was very encouraging. I appreciate there were some serious runners there, I am a beginner but it is really helpful.
