In short: Excellent race give it a go!!!!! In full: After reading al the scarey reveiws on here about the dreaded hills I was a bit apprehensive but it was a great route and the support from the organisers was fantastic!!!!! The hills well there is two one of which is a steady incline so relatively easy and the second hill at about the 7/8km mark was fairly steep but not unachieveable if you are a runner and have done a few hill sessions in your training. My advice do it for the experince it is achievable and is a great run!!! Date of review: July 19, 2010
In full: How the hell I forgot to rate this one. A nice race, the country roads provide a few challenges especially that hill towards the end. The t-shirt good as ever and most of all well organised by Thrift Green Trotters. Looking forward to next year. Date of review: November 3, 2009
In short: Hard work In full: Fast downhill first 5k gives you hope, then you hit the uphill last 5k and hurt. Excellent organisation and marshalling. Only gripe is the ridiculously narrow start - this was the Essex Championship. Date of review: July 23, 2009
In short: Enjoyable, well organised race with a few small hills thrown in! In full: I liked this race a lot and will definitely add it to the schedule next year. Really well organised with good support from the marshalls. The hills are a good test, don't lets these put you off. Agree with others comments, like the t-shirt would prefer a medal. In short: Whoever said Essex was flat should enter this race! In full: As a veteran of this race I knew the score. I'd forgotten how hard that second hill was, but resisted the temptation to walk, although I felt that I was hardly moving.
I was glad to discover the first water station at the bottom of the first hill - a very welcome improvement from my previous attempts.
Great course, great marshalls, great design on the T-shirt, great day out. I even managed to knock a minute and half of my previous best on this course, which made my day!
Thanks TGT, for another horribly wonderful race. Date of review: July 20, 2009
In short: Superb local event In full: Really enjoyed this one. The hills are fairly tough, but not too much of a shock to the system if you prepared accordingly!
Impressive organisation, loved the tee and mile/hill markers. Only minor gripe is the narrow start and the uneven terrain at the finish, but I guess this is a necassary evil to avoid further congesting the main road.
All in all, an event TGT should be proud of. Date of review: July 20, 2009
In short: Very enjoyable race for seasoned runners In full: Certainly enjoyed this event. Very well organisaed by the Thrit Green Trotters, they have produced a very challenging course which is enjoyable to run. The distance markers were very good, normally I miss one or two but these were all viewable plus gave runners the option to pace themselves using kilometres or miles.
Only downers for me was not recieving a medal, I find them a better reward for a race than a t-shirt. Also the start of the race is on a very narrow farming path, would rather that be on a decent road.
Bar them two points it was a great race, one of the best I've done in Essex. If any decent runners fancy a bit of challenge then do this one.
That second hill is a beaut!! I didn't think things like that existed in Essex!! Date of review: July 20, 2009
