In short: Great organisation. challenging course and friendly marshals In full: I ran this race last year and was so impressed I came back this year. You simply can't fault the race HQ inside the Queen's Stand at the racecourse.
The weather was kinder to us this year, although it was quite blustery before the start. I didn't hear the start gun despite being relatively near the front. Perhaps it was too windy? Not a major issue as it was obvious the race had started.
Pacing was quite hard throughout, with faster sections and slower sections. There were hills to climb but enough downhill as well.
Slight confusion right at the end where a lot of the runners ran on the grass towards the finish. I'm not sure at which point we were supposed to go from the road to the grass for the finish. Again it wasn't clear when we were running in whether to go to the left or right of the funnel right before the finish line. A minor point on an otherwise faultless race.
Once again the marshals were absolutely fantastic. Thank you very much to all of you. Date of review: November 16, 2015
In short: Great tour of Epsom Downs In full: My first time on this race and I was impressed. The organisation is very slick, and the race HQ in the Queen's Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse, is very plush. The whole race is run on the road, so if you don't like having to deal with cars, this might not be for you, but the drivers are generally reasonable, apart from a couple of - well, insert your own pithy epithet here. The course is challenging - with a big drop in the first mile followed by a big climb in the second, and then with a few inclines through the rest of the race. It is not flat. It was windy today (at least it was reasonably 'warm' and dry), but it's a 'circular' course, so you really can't complain. The course does show off a number of local 'high points' - Headly, Headly Heath, Walton, Epsom Downs, but it is never in Epsom - so the Epsom 10 is a bit of a misnomer: Epsom Downs 10 might be more accurate. It was certainly fast at the front, but back in the +70 minutes section, there were a few understated battles going on, despite the strung-out field. Well done to the organisers for making the effort - thank you. As always, thanks to the other runners for making it a race! Date of review: November 15, 2015
In short: Lots of Fun In full: If anything, the weather added to the sense of camaraderie and I was already so wet that the flooded road didn't make any difference. This is a really nice event, just challenging enough with a great atmosphere - a thoroughly enjoyable last race of the year. Date of review: November 25, 2014
In short: A great day out In full: I can't believe I haven't done this race before. A beautiful setting with great facilities at race HQ with really friendly hosts. Despite the awful weather conditions everybody was really friendly and cheerful. The course itself was challenging (particularly in the first 3 or 4 miles) and it was a shame that a small section of the route was flooded (just one of those things).
An absolute bargain at only £13 for affiliated runners. I know it wasn't chip timed but to be honest that automatically puts the entry fee up and I'd rather pay the lower price and do without.
Thank you very much to the host club (Epsom and Ewell Harriers) especially all of the fantastic marshals standing out on the course in the horrible weather. You were all superb! Date of review: November 24, 2014
In short: excellent 10 miler In full: A big thank you to the organisers & all the marshalls, can't have been much fun in that relentless rain. The race was fantastic, the flooding and rain just giving it that extra twist to the usual, thank goodness for the brilliant facilities at the end, the changing rooms were a godsend given the conditions. In short: Hilly 1st half, flatter 2nd half In full: An interesting race with challenging terrain. First half has most the climbs, the second half alot flatter with gentle undulations. Date of review: November 23, 2014
In short: Marvellous morning. Nearly dried out.... In full: One of the most enjoyable 10 milers I've done, despite the unrelenting torrential rain and flooding! Nearly didn't get out of bed, so glad I did. Low key, club race with excellent venue and smooth organisation. Lovely course, ups nicely offset by downs with a cheeky rollercoaster section near the end and a fab gentle downhill for a speedy finish. Marshalls were all smiley and encouraging - they must have been frozen. At least as runners we're moving and not cold till afterwards. Would be stunning in the sunshine but had such a good time the wet didn't matter. Thanks to everyone involved, will def do again. Date of review: November 23, 2014
