In short: A test of body and mind In full: A great workout for the lungs and the legs. The steps, the hills, the sweat, the snot...character building. This is not as hard as the Major-Muggle, but it is hard enough to long-for an 'ordinary' on-tarmac half-marathon. Date of review: October 19, 2011

In short: Blimey! In full: Carrying an injured calf so had to go steadier than I would have preferred - but left me with an even greater sense of achievement to finish, which in essence must be one of the hardest races around. Well worth doing though Date of review: September 5, 2011

In short: Loved It, Will Definately Be Back! In full: This was a challenge, slippery rocky tracks, a field full of mad cows, steps from hell, stiles, etc. BUT all worth the pain. A great race Date of review: September 5, 2011

In short: Fantastic - wouldn't hesitate to recommend this well organised race In full: My first ‘Beast’ and I really enjoyed it. Not a GPS friendly race, I would suggest switching off the 'auto pause' function in your Garmin if you use it as it gives a false reading both in time and distance. By this I mean you can queue for a bit going over the numerous stiles and the 3 flights of stairs (one down, two up) are so incredibly steep the Garmin doesn't register you moving so pauses itself. I'm guessing this is why the race appears short and my time better than it really was according to my 405. Marshals were brilliant - really supportive. My only recommendations would be to make the route map more prominent on the Poole AC website so people have got a better grasp of how often water stations are coming up and introduce some mile markers on the route to help runners better pace themselves. In short: Very hard well organised cross country. In full: My first BEAST; I found this very challenging and without milage markers difficult to pace. The organisation is excellent and there was a very friendly set of runners. It felt like a massive achievement to finish in under two hours (usual half 95mins)and I couldnt have run another foot by the time I finsihed. I will recommend this to my fit friends who want to challenge themselfs. Date of review: September 5, 2011

In short: Fantastic - as good as ever In full: Even taking into account the mad cows, the slippery rocky track, the headwind gale along the cliffs and the Steps from Hell, this is such a brilliant race. Great organisation with lovely friendly marshalls (special thanks to the one in the mad cow field) and there was even a Small size t-shirt left for a back-marker like me! What more can you ask?!! In short: Glorious location more than compensates for very tough course In full: Great race - really well organised (even allowing for the herd of wild cows!), stunning location and a lovely atmosphere. Certainly not easy but that's part of it's charm...I think. Date of review: September 5, 2011

In short: Another awesome Beast! In full: This is my second time at The Beast and I loved it just as much as the first! Fantastic race which has it all in terms of terrain. The sun shone on us today - totally against the weather forecast, although there were still slippery areas from the rain overnight. Great marshalls, great organisation and great communication. A must do race if you dont mind a little pain... Date of review: September 4, 2011
