In short: A very enjoyable race that I would recommend In full: First time at this one for me. I was aware that there were some hills, but they were not as fearsome as all that. Course a bit twisty but there were some lovely views by the Sound and the track finish was great. Date of review: February 21, 2012

In short: Marshalling lessons learnt from last year?... Almost. In full: Great venue - start and finish at an athletics stadium, giving the event a great "village" atmosphere. Interesting city route, but very twisty / turny - forever making hairpin bends, leaping on and off kerbs, never knowing quite where you were being sent next... Which brings me to my biggest negative... I got sent the wrong way. Or rather, the runners in front of me had been sent the wrong way at the roundabout on the cobbled section, by an archway, at about mile 7. The marshall had not been quick enough to stop them, so more of us followed suit. By the time we registered everyone's shouts, turned around and realised, I reckon I had over run by 100m and lost myself about 30 seconds of time. The female behind me who I had worked hard for 7 miles to drop then caught me up. Very infuriating. Shame, as apart from this mishap, which understandably put a dampner on my experience, the rest of the race was good. Water in bottles, not cups, and well positioned. Good support on route. A varied route that kept you guessing, and a great finish, completing 2 laps of the track, making it spectator friendly. Good value for money, a nice quality medal. But please, no more marshalling mishaps next year... Date of review: February 20, 2012

In short: race that worked on many levels In full: after 1 or 2 problems last year, Armada Athletics pulled out all the stops this year to ensure a smooth running, including organising some excellent running weather! well done to Paul Ross, Keith Reed, John Smith and all the other marshals, helpers, pre and post race massagers, supporters etc for making it brilliant. i paced round my mate so i was able to enjoy the sights around the Hoe properly for once. shame devon couldnt beat cornwall in the Peninsula challenge! In short: The new course has potential for PBs and somenew views of the Sound. In full: The down-side of the new route was the lack of familiarity for the kind marshals - with 12 elite runners getting lost, and the whole field (other than the wheelcahir athlete, I hope!)having to run up an spriral staircase when the small turn on to a path was missed. The up-sides were some good views, traffic-freedom and the usual "fast" track finish. The memento embroidered hat was most welcome! Thanks. Date of review: February 24, 2011

In short: Good race along around Plymouth In full: This race takes you around some nicer areas of Plymouth and onto Brickfields track. A smaller race than many and there were a lot of club runners. Don't let that put you off because it was friendly and seemed quite relaxed compared to other races. Every finisher got a nice woolly hat. Date of review: February 22, 2011

In short: Quite a hilly course but that race track carpet feel at the end...ah... In full: Quite hilly, but a nice route, better than the 2 lap repeat, well organised and supported. Good local race to get your race year started! Date of review: February 21, 2011

In short: another great race! In full: well done to armada forum and tamar trotters for organising another great race. what with having to re-plan the course; you did it and it worked. the devon/cornwall challenge adds the spice to the recipe. roll on 2011. Date of review: February 21, 2010

In short: Great course, excellant organisation - a must do event In full: Plymouth Council's bizarre decision to fill in a crucial pedestrian subway left the race organisers with a dilemma. Either issue all the runners with a pick and shovel or change the first and last few miles of the course. It was felt that option one would give the cornish runners, with their mining heritage, too much of an advantage over the Devon runners in the inter county challenge. So option two was chosen. Was the new course slower or faster than the old one, who knows. Too be honest who cares it was still an excellant, well organised race with spot on signage and marshalling. The finish of a lap and a half of the track at the Brickfields was heaven on the feet and real uplifting support for the runners in that last 600 metres. One of my favourite event. In short: Lots of serious runners, so quite fast. Hilly but nice course along sea front In full: Lots of running club members, so fairly quick and serious race, a bit disheartening if you are a beginner. Nice to finish on the nice soft running track after the final hill! Date of review: February 21, 2010
