In short: It can never be as good as the first time
In full: I've done a few races over a few decades, including the Flora London Marathon. I have done the Grizzly once and it is a highlight of my LIFE, let alone my running history. I don't want to do it again only because I don't want to risk diluting the memories - despite the sentiments of my favourite sign around the course: "You are NowHere - always." If you can do it, do do it. It is fabulous on so many counts.

In short: Even more Grizzly than it used to be
In full: Anyone (like me) who thought the Grizzly in September was going to be a soft option compared to March, was soon realising this course is hard. The hills seemed steeper and longer, and the mud was nearly as muddy as March, with the streams nearly as deep. I suffered from the hills despite this being part of my warm up for Beachy Head. Actually recorded my first DNF - but that was a medical issue of very low blood pressure after 15 miles. Thanks to the excellent medical backup for persuading me to take the St Johns route back to Seaton.

In short: an annual must do event but in March please
In full: What a race; hill after hill, bonehard offroad decents and climbs, wet woods, warm bogs full of glue. Mud dried on legs to make it feel like running in armour and diving boots. But twice trough the swamp not fair. A great big event full of real atmosphere. And the swim in the sea to end it. Well done axe valley

In short: Brilliant - loved it, but this was tough
In full: fantastic scenery and excellent organisation - tougher than last year's eventhough it was warm and dry (excpet the bog which tried to keep my shoe as a souvenir) - I definately needed the hose down at the end of the run. Well done to Axe Valley Runners for a great race especially given all the upheaval with having to postpone. You deserve a medal.

In short: Tough, hilly, immense fun.
In full: This is a big race - 996 finishers on this year's results.
It usually happens in early March, but part of the course is on Branscombe beach, so it was postponed. As a consequence, it wasn't a typical Grizzly, being rather warm and only muddy in the infamous bogs!
The course offered loads of variety, inluding 3000ft of ascent/descent, streams, bogs and pebble beaches. No chance of getting into a rhythm there!
There was a marshal at every junction, usually cheering you on, so you couldn't possibly get lost. Water stops were plentiful, often with jelly babies on offer too. There were various musicians and bands dotted around the course, as well as many cheering people.
A superb experience.

In short: Brilliant organisation, great mud, just a bit too hot!
In full: having never done the grizzly before i was very impressed with the organisation, plenty of water and a t-shirt that actually fits and was the size circled on the entry form ... well done organisers, will be back again next time for my mud bath!

In short: Grizzly not just by name
In full: If anyone was fretting that holding the Grizzly during the summer would make it a little bit too bland, the organisers put a few extra humps in - they say 3000 ft of climb, my Garmin says 7000 ft! Can't wait for March and the same course in typical Grizzly wind and rain (maybe I will have use of my legs again by then. The effort and good spirit that go into organising this event is incredible.
