In short: Still a favourite
In full: I now have 4 mugs!
I love this race.
Scenery. Tick.
Camaraderie. Tick.
Masochistic sense of achievement defeating the climbs. Tick.
Unpredictable weather. Double Tick
Breaking 2 hours... still trying, but as already said, it's not a PB course, so maybe next year!

In short: One to run again.
In full: First time running this one. The hand-thrown mugs are great, and it's lovely to see the organisers including runners' times for the last x number of years, too. The off-road section was really fun, and the atmosphere was very good, despite the attached show being cancelled due to wet ground. The marshalling was excellent, and just the right number of water stops. One gripe: it didn't start on time, meaning my warm-ups had been pretty much in vain.

In short: Proper running!
In full: People enter this race because of their love of running not because of their need for a PB. What that means is you get a great atmosphere, a huge sense of achievement and none of that silly competetive talk on the start line you get with some other races. I am one year away from completing my mug tree, it was the first race I ever did and I've not missed it since. The hills seem to find out your mood on the day, sometimes I've thought they're not that bad and other times they are worse than I remember - it felt like that this year! Still absolutely loved the battle, the last up hill was so rewarding knowing I had that crazy sprint down the hill on battered legs to the finish to collect my mug. Loved it.

In short: Tough hilly event but very enjoyable
In full: I will hope to come back next year and pace myself a bit better on the hills - the incline between miles 3 and 6.5 was tough but I struggled more with the one at mile 11

In short: Really tough, but thoroughly enjoyable...
In full: despite the weather (which can't be helped, although it did prevent what would be spectacular views) this was great fun, and a tough, challenging race. Fairly informal, but brillantly marshalled. It's not a PB course, but the mix of hills, tarmac and field/track kept it interesting.

In short: Tough race made even tougher by the rain
In full: What a shame about the weather! The torrential rain did not make the off road section much fun. Tough hilly course makes this race a bit of a challenge but enjoyable. Nice to be able to look round the show before and after and lots of good stuff to eat and drink. Accurate mile markers, plenty of water stations and marshalls where you needed them. I wasnt very happy being kept waiting on the start line in torrential rain waiting for last minute entrants to arrive - if you are going to enter on the day you need to get there in good time. People had to hang around for the prize presentation for an awful long time which sounds a bit ungrateful and I am not - they were good prizes - just would have rather got away home and dry a bit quicker.

In short: A Yorkshire gem!
In full: First ran this in 1989 and it was highly demanding then - never broke 100 minutes :( Low key, well organised, varied gradient & interesting terrain - but I can't ever recall rain like it! I plan to return for my 10th next year. Thank you, all at Bp Wilton :)
