In short: Not for hill phobics!
In full: Tough race but supportive marshalls and regular drink stations.
The climbs aren't particularly steep but they are long and the last 2 miles seemed really far, hilly and difficult, especially the short sharp hill the second time round. I was very glad to finish!

In full: 9th year in a row I have done this and it is still tough as ever the little steep hill at Holmfirth on 2nd lap takes it out of your legs the other tough bit is the long hill from Honley

In short: Hilly but enjoyable - perhaps a bit dull?
In full: Back for the second year and managed to PB by over 6 minutes so was happy with my performance. The race was well organised, well signed and mostly well marshalled apart from at the Honley Water Station, where two marshals were standing on the pavement nattering and refused to respond to my shout of "runner" so I was forced to run out into the road to pass them. I was so tempted to "accidently" spill my water on him, except that I needed it!

Overall its quite an old-fashioned sort of race with a small field, but the distance makes it unusual and its great for a long run.

The i-pod police said they would disqualify anyone with both ears in - I've never heard that one before, but to be fair I wouldn't want to run on the main road with traffic, in yesterdays fog with music, it would have been too dangerous, so probably fair dos!

In short: Hills
In full: Would run it again as an excellent race. Just a shame the ipod police frown on you using them. Apart from that a great days race.

In short: A challenging course and a fairly well organised race.
In full: I enjoyed the race - the course was hilly enough to be challenging but not hilly enough to force me to give up and walk. There were some parts of the race on a fairly busy main road with no pavements so care was needed. The marshalls were quite good and some were friendly, helpful and supportive although quite a few of them could not even be bothered to cheer or clap - in one case she could not even be bothered to stop the traffic for me. There was quite an elity club feel to this - by the time I got back in 2 hours and 23 minutes (a huge personal best for me)the marshalls were tapping their fingers as they obviously just wanted to get on with the prizes. This is really a race for club members and fast people, so avoid it if you want any other sort of feel-good factor out of the achievement of running 15 miles. When I got inside the race results pages 1-3 were up on the wall already which is impressive but as I was on page 4 it was less so as they had obviously lost interest in everyone who finished after page 3 so I had to wait for it to go on the website.
Also according to the map on the Harriers website the race goes through the centre of Holmfirth (well thats how me and several others read it) yet it actually went up the back of the co-op instead. Fortunately the cheer squad realised in time and got to the main road before I went past. Perhaps the organisers should update their website or amend their route map before next year?
In spite of my reservations I would do it again because I am still on a high after the huge achievement of running the whole distance!

In short: Enjoyable 'low key' local race over an unusual distance
In full: First time I've done this, but would do again. Not as tough regarding the hills as I was expecting - only a couple of really steep bits (short) and then a longer, slow drag. But as it's a two lap race, you'll have the pleasure of doing them twice!
Very well organised for a 'small' event with marshalls placed at all the right places to guide and encourage!
3 water stations provided refreshments (but only in cups whoch are difficult to drink from 'on the go')
Good friendly atmosphere and nice scenery of the surrounding hills, benefiting from a rainbow this year!
Although route follows main roads, most of the time you can keep away from traffic on the pavements (but beware of slippery leaves!) and marshalls keep the traffic at bay at any intersections.
Value wise I found it a little steep, no chip timing, no medal but the beanie hat made a nice alternative from yet another t-shirt.
Would do again as it's a challenging distance and makes for an interesting race
