In short: This race has everything, beach, grass, trails, and a little bit of pavement thrown in for good measure
In full: I've done this race several times and I swear that Sunderland Strollers must be praying to the weather gods, as it's always glorious sunshine for this race.

The start is very tough on the beach, especially if the tide is in, but the terrain eases off as you climb (the one and only) short hill onto the leas. Then it's grass & trails all the way through to Whitburn. Then it's on to the promenade and back down onto the beach for the finish.

Stunning scenery running along the seafront, and a great atmosphere from the competitors, as well as a pretty decent (if a little random) goody bag at the finish.

In short: Fab. I really enjoyed this race.
In full: A definate yes for next year. I loved it. Even the beach start and finish are not enough to put me off doing it again. The scenery is fab. Great race.

In short: One for the calendar!
In full: Really good run, this. Okay, so maybe the sunlight on the sea coloured my judgement - can imagine this would be grim in bad weather. Beach, grass and path ... no roads. Yes, the tide was out, but my feet were soaked by the first 6 mins of splashing! Great fun! Will remember that 6 mins into my next boring road race. Organisation simple, but couldn't be faulted. BTW how far was it? Never mind. It doesn't matter.

In short: A great run only made better my the weather
In full: I really enjoyed this race - not something I say often! The course was a great mix of beach, track and path - well away from cars.
There was a great turnout and a really broad field which is important for us slower runners! The weather was great which only improved the view out to sea. I can imagine it being a bit grim in bad weather.
I did get my trainers soggy at the end but it was worth it.
