In short: Good race in lovely scenery hampered by marshall error In full: Lets put this race in perspective. As most have said, things were good right up until the point that a marshall made an error which resulted in confusion. I have suffered logistical problems at other bigger races and have returned. I would run the race again next year when hopefully the issues have been ironed out as it was a lovely route. Let's also remember it was done for a great cause (to raise money for a school that helps special needs children). Great to get a time for a 12k anyway!!
In short: Bad organisation. In full: The begining of the route was single file track (and I really mean single file!). It opened up later but that would have been too late for any poor sole stuck in the middle of the queue; no chance of PB's in this event. Signage and Marshals were OK until the water station and then chaos ensued, 4 possible directions, no signs and the marshal at the water station had no idea. "umm ooh err straight on I think" she guessed, so off we went to get lost on a Sunday. What a waste of my day and money. No apology given, no refund offered. Date of review: July 16, 2007
In short: The route was fantastic In full: Runners got lost due to the marshall at the 4-5k pointing runners in the wrong direction. The organiser was at the finishing line and was handing out water and apologising. this was a first year event and Waverley Running club has volunteered to marshall the race next year. I was told that the mugs were being posted today or tomorrow. The organiser was very upset but marshall error is part of racing and as runners we have to accept that. Brooks were on hand to support the race and I am told that they will sponsor it again next year. Date of review: July 16, 2007
In short: Much room for improvement next year! In full: The race organisation started quite well but completely disappeared after 4km. As a result there was much confusion and disappointment (and a safety hazard as runners ambled up the very steep slope alongside cars coming to the fete). Hopefully the organisers will take note and make significant improvements for next year as it has potential as a race. Date of review: July 16, 2007
In short: No medal although a compass and map at the start would have helped!! In full: I feel that this race was set up with all good intentions but lacked the knowledge and understanding of managing a good event, it should not of been advertised on runners world or at other well organised events because serious runners were fooled into attending. Other posts point out how it went from bad to worse with most giving up or just being plain lost or confused! It is a shame as this was St Dominic’s first year where you would expect teething troubles but not many will give it a chance next year. Date of review: July 16, 2007
