In short: Tough but rewarding In full: I've done the Race the Train in Wales but this was harder although slightly shorter. Some hard climbs and challenging underfoot with cobbles, tree roots and muddy bits. Great support from train passengers and marshals. Great technical T-shirt and a nice medal. Good to go back to the start on a steam train. 16 from my club did it and all had an enjoyable day out. I hope it becomes an annual event, very good for a first time race. In short: My all-time favourite race! In full: This was my third, and unsuccessful attempt to outrun the train. However, taking part again confirmed that it is my all-time favourite event. The course is challenging, yet fun, especially squelching through the bog. The scenery is beautiful. The support on the course, both from the marshalls and spectators, is great. Organization faultless, plus nice medal, goody bag and a t-shirt and overall a great family day out. I will be back next year! Date of review: August 26, 2014
In short: Fantastic race for those wanting to try multi terrain! In full: 10k Quarry Challenge. I absolutely loved this race, definitely one of my favourites so far. Just a few quick points: - The medal was HUGE and made lots of my fellow runners very jealous! - The support around the course is fantastic and really gives you a boost especially towards the end. - I was a bit worried when I read some of the reviews as I thought it was going to be almost impossible but it really wasn't that bad if you're in training shape. The challenges of jumping over streams and squelching through bogs kept it interesting. The only silly part was up the steep hill near the start where you had to stop and wait for people to move onto a single track path but after that it got a lot better and easier to pass people. -My only negative with this race is that no one seemed to be able to tell me the actual time of the train and all I could work out was that I'd missed it by something less than 9 seconds based on the next person that it said had beat it.
Either way, I will definitely be going back to race the train again!! Date of review: August 24, 2014
In short: Fun Fun Fun In full: Challenging course with mixed terrain. The marshals were really supportive and encouraging and the supporters were vocal - whether they were on, or off, the train. I think the 10K is a harder course than the 14 miles but whichever route you earn your mega-medal and useful goody bag and a whopping cheer from the crowds by the finish Date of review: August 21, 2014
In short: Fabulous first fell race! In full: Loved this! Plenty of challenge in the course but found it took no more out of you than a road course where you're flat out for the whole 10k! Enjoyed the variety and perfect weather conditions helped. Mud, streams, climbs, descents and a nice flat finish. Nice goody bag, cotton t-shirt and and a whopping shiny medal.
