In short: Another good event by the BV Lions In full: An excellent event considering it is not organised by a running club. My only real criticism is the start. Having to stop 100 yards into the race to squeeze through the gate is very frustrating. I know it only effects overall time by a few seconds but this could easily be rectified by starting in the road and having a longer finish in the field. Date of review: February 5, 2015
In short: Good first half-marathon of the year In full: All on-road. A little undulating, with a 'nice' hill for last 1k. Just water in plastic cups en-route. Marshals fine, cotton t-shirt, no showers, toilets - just enough. Roads are as quiet as you can expect, civilised start time.
In short: Hilly and fun with fantastic marshalls around the course! In full: A fairly well organised race, would not recommend it to someone who hasn't been to an organised running event before as we were sometimes unsure where to go and what times to start but luckily there was a few who had been to these events before so roughly knew what to expect. Massive queues for the toilets so go early!! Great fun and the last uphill bit soon wakes you up. Would be nice to have a quirky medal which shows you'd completed 'The Hilly One' Marshalls do a great job around the course!! Date of review: January 3, 2015
In short: Hilly for sure, but in lovely surroundings! In full: This was my second BVHM and I didn't remember that massive hill in the middle. This was the first race I've ever thought of giving up on - but that was more due to my bad pacing than the course itself. The parking is literally 50 metres from the start/finish and there's a kids play area that overlooks the finish which kept our boy amused! Sucker for punishment so i'll be back next year! In short: Best half marathon on the South West! In full: Excellent course with hills that were challenging but not ridiculous. Organisation was fantastic. Friendly and excellent value, Date of review: February 3, 2014
In short: super organisation, pleasant route. In full: 2nd time doing this race. I remembered the long steady hill in the middle but it didn't seem as bad this time. Really well organised; well signed to the car parking, marshallers to cross the road, simple collection of numbers, great route marking and water stops throughout race, plenty of marshallers. Very well done! A pleasant route with good variation incline/decline/flat. Date of review: February 2, 2014
In short: Perfect first run of year In full: Plenty of ups and downs - but not ridiculous hills. Marshals and all of the officials friendly and efficient - the Car-parking team are fantastic. Lots of lovely cake (and bacon sandwiches) available Plenty of water-stations Not much traffic Great value, good cause and a tee-shirt.
In an ideal world there would be showers and bag storage....but I can live without them. All in all a charming and worthwhile Sunday morning - a very civilised Start time as well. Date of review: February 2, 2014
