In short: Very tough, very scary, loads of fun
In full: Wasn't sure how much of this was hype before I did it. conclusion, not a great deal! This is a very tough race. It will bring out any weaknesses you have and lay them bare for all and sundry to see. You do need to be fit, both physically and mentally to do this and enjoy it. The camaraderie from fellow runners is uplifting and there is always someone to pull you out of the mud, offer you a leg up or just a smile. If you want another challenge after a marathon...do this event

In short: Nothing else like it - fantastic
In full: This event is hard, cold and draining - but if you want a challenge to your endurance, whilst having a laugh at yourself, this is the one. Do not underestimate it though, or it will bite back. Train for distance, jumping and climbing and you should be OK. Hypothermia in July anyone? - yes there were a few...

In short: Hard as nails is an understatement
In full: The toughest thing I've ever done. It makes another marathon seem an attractive alternative. I only made it round one lap of the killing fields.

It is expensive but all in a good cause and it's cheaper the earlier you enter.

Not exactly elitist but anyone not used to long distances offroad would struggle. Some upper body training would help.

Anyone with a fear of heights or claustrophobia is probably better off trying something else. The website gives details of the obstacles although these seem to change slightly year by year.

Great T-shirt but I regret not getting the medal. Now I know what I can't do so I won't try it again.

I can't believe they also run this in the winter. It was bad enough in July but having people pulled out with hypothermia does seem to verge on criminal irresponsibility. I know that everyone enters by their own choice but why give them the option and encourage them?

In short: Awesome - a must for anyone wishing to test their mental and phsyical endurance
In full: What a fantastic day...the atomosphere created by the runners was great and the course was challenging. Reasonable distance on the run with a thigh busting hill slalom in middle, then the killing fields..good fun except for the underwater tunnels that was just not funny. Many more water obstacles to zap your strength and good run in to the finish for tea and biccies... See you next year Tough Guy.

In short: So much fun, it doesn't get better than this!
In full: Awesome race, but course was easier this year which was a shame but still fantastic, mild temperatures helped too, shame really I was looking forward to a head splitting ice cream headache! Can't wait till next year, I just hope it's colder!

In short: Sorts the men from the boys
In full: Mental toughness is the key to success/ survival..At the end of the race i saw the perfect advert for tough guy (a man 6ft 3ish standing there shivering with tears running down his face. He was too tramatised even to talk. This event especially the winter one is exactly what it says on the tin and should not be underestimated. This was my 7th Tough Guy run (4 summers and 3 winters) Last year was definatly colder but it was still cold it that water. You need to get running as soon as you leave the water and that is why the training and fitness is so important. I knocked around 40 mins off last years time and completed in 2 hours 12 mins. Will break 2 hours next winter.. The only thing thats off putting is that the price for entry is very steep and rises every year..

In short: Wet, Muddy & very cold.
In full: The run was good but the fun really starts when you get to the killing fields. Shove your head under the water & it really does take your breath away, the pain in your head reminds you why this is very wrong. Looking forward to next January

Ideal way to spend your sunday.....

In short: Brings out the big kid in you - jumping in puddles and splashing in the mud
In full: My first tough guy but not my last. The cold was not as bad as I expected (apart from the underwater tunnels)Fantastic atmosphere and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Hot chocolate and warm(ish) showers to finish of with. I'm just glad I decided not to wear any decent kit. I don't think it will every be clean again.

In short: tough challenging course real high if you complete it
In full: lots of hills, freezing water, tunnels and rope. do not do unless you are both mentally as well as physically strong enough as although anyone who can run eight miles will be fit enough coming out of the freezing water for the nth time and seeing people ahead of you going completely underwater at the next obstacle is a real challenge for you to keep going.
