In short: Enjoyed the scenery and once it stopped raining it was a lovely run In full: Enjoyed this race, it is a pretty run along the Forth estuary and definite PB potential. Organisation was OK except confusion of luggage drop and water stations could have been better sign posted. I ran this race as part of my challenge, Challenge 40, to find out more go to www.challenge40.co.uk.
In short: Windy First time Half Marathon, Although nearly missed the start In full: The only problem with this Half was the toilets at the start. Myself and 3 friends waited 20 mins to go to the loo, when i eventually got into one of the loos the start of the race began. This was not a major issue as im a beginner and would have started at the back anyway but the main problem was that the queues for the toilets were across the course. I didn't find any problems along the course, great drink stations, friendly marshalls, mile markers at every mile (can't have blown away cause i was near the back). Only point would have been more supportors along portobello as it was a very lonely, windy stretch! Overall i enjoyed it and even after saying never again to running a half (during the last mile) i am keen to keep it up. Rant Over Date of review: March 19, 2008
In short: Good race, once I finally knew I was in ! In full: Didn't recieve a race pack in time for the race. I understand an email was sent out saying that you could collect a number and chip at the start but my email was down. I called the help line 5 times to try to find out if I could pick up a number on the day but just got an answerphone. Managed to get on the bus to the start even though I had no ticket and was relieved to find that I could still run. However as the number I received was in the 3000's I had to start right at the back. Despite all this I enjoyed the race and achieved a PB despite the wind. Great medal and goody bag. In short: Great PB course and fabulous goody bag but congestion at the start In full: I've done this the last 3 years and thought the organisation had taken a step backwards from last year (not as bad as year 1 though). Not enough loos and the queues went over the start area. Strange start based on race number and not time. My friend and I both put in 1:45:00 finishing times when we entered and she had no. 300 and I was no. 1600. Consequently I got stuck behind people and was behind schedule even for a 1:50:00 finish time at the 2 mile marker, it's a lot of ground to make up into a head wind. I saw only the 2, 5 and 10 mile markers despite looking out for the others. Assumed they had blown away. My husband gave me a lift to and from so we didn't have the car parking issues. He parked 10 mins walk from the racecourse and we got away as soon as I finished. Fabulous tin of shortbread in the goody bag. Best gift I've ever seen post race. All in all though, I preferred the start finish at Ocean terminal even with all the twists and turns. Date of review: March 19, 2008
In short: Great PB potential on this course In full: Really enjoyed this race, thought the atmosphere was pretty good, and like the early start. Organised transport worked well but need more toilets at the start (why on earth did they place them on the route runners about to pass?!) and the car park siuation was a fiasco, with everyone stuck there till all the runners passed!
