In short: People need to keep their perspective!.
In full: First time I've done this race. I am a back of the packer, but still found the same enthusiasm from marshals who had been out on the course for a long time !
Bless those children who stood out in freezing conditions on the water stations. They gave us a big cheer as we went past.
Even though really near the back, the finish line was still up and there were still choccies to be had, as well as a t-shirt!.

I have to say that the people who slag this race off, don't go!. There's 100's of other people that had a perfectly nice time. Nice Work put on some great races across the country and without people like Cathy and Martin you wouldn't have any races around here, so pipe down.

In short: Good flat course - poor organisation
In full: I only run this course because it's flat. Very poorly organised, and expensive for what it is. I didn't see any technical shirt - I finished after 2.10, so perhaps they had run out. I was given a toy shop medal that isn't worth keeping. No food or energy drinks. The organisers need to close the lane to traffic. And perhaps buy a few bags of sand to fill in the potholes. You know, do some actual organising! This is probably the worse organised race on the calendar, and given that people have complained in the past, I don't quite get why Martin and Cathy Burke don't do something about it. This could be such a great run if only they made a little bit more effort. You can't have cars and runners together in a narrow lane filled with pot holes. The lane is private so can be closed off. Close it off.

In short: Nice scenery, but a bit chaotic at the finish
In full: Plus points:
Nice scenery
Flat course
plenty of water stations

Minus points:
Chaotic finish with cars and bikes leaving the finish line area while runners still coming in, its just not fair so stop people parking right by the finish line!
I'd go with another reveiwer who said lose the t shirt and spend a bit more on the medal as people will look at this in years to come and think about that race and weather they should do it again!
Didn't like to loop part at around the 6 mile point where we went half way down a lane only to turn around again just to make up the mileage.

I may do it again, mainly because i enjoyed the course and the scenery.

In short: Glad the rain held off.
In full: A first at Lydd for me. Didn't like the finish much as wasn't sure where to go what with cars and 2 cyclist in the way. Luckily marshals on hand to guide me. Would of preferred another run round the field at the end rather than the little loop we had to do. Goodie bag? I didn't get one and the medal was naff. Would do it again but probably enter on the day depending on the weather.

In short: Great race-awful medal
In full: Did this last year and managed to get 3 mins off time although I am always at the back ! Hated the wind on the return and as usual for me mile 8,9,10 seemed endless and no I didnt miss having a mile 1 marker. Most marshalls encouraging, great kids giving out water all eager for you to take their cup-love the t-shirt but what happened to the medal this year Nice-WorK ?? It must the worst medal ever especially for a half marathon- I expect more from NW !

In short: Potentially a great race, but depends on a few things being tweaked.
In full: First of all before I have a bit of a whinge I'd like to sincerely thank all the little kiddies out on the course at the water stations and various other points, they were so brave to be out in freezing conditions yet seemed so happy to be there. A true inspiration. Also a big thanks to everyone who gave their time to help this race happen from the marshals to the registrars. I know without them these races simply don't happen.
However, I was mildly disappointed with the race as a whole. My main gripe is with the medal, it was real poor effort from the organisers. I know opinion is divided between runners as to the importance of a good medal. I'm sure some people just lob it in an old shoe box with all the others but I'm the 'sentimental fool' type who takes pride in these race mementos. I expect more from a half marathon. I also know that a lot of runners will run a greater number of races over the years and many of more importance, grandeur, and significance, but to some completing a half is a massive achievement and could be the biggest race they are ever going to run in? In short I just think the technical t-shirt could be dispensed with and the budget for that spent on the medals. Think of it this way, I could buy a tech t-shirt myself but if I brought and engraved my own medal that would just be weird!
Also the facilities for changing and showering etc seemed to be just two tin sheds that were crammed full of spectators trying to avoid the cold weather. So had to change outdoors. Not to mention there were far too few toilets -only 9 portaloos- for a race with 600+ runners. Completely chaotic last few hundred yards! Cars and people everywhere! I don't know how much money the sponsors 'Brett' put into this event or what it's spent on but it's fairly evident where it doesn't go.
Aside from that the bag storage was well organised and efficient, the start was punctual and timing impeccable, with results available rapidly. The course is lovely and flat and definite PB potential although the wind on the day coupled with the lack of hedgerow protection from it probably made that hard for most! Of course it's no way the fault of the organisers. Just bad luck.

And my photos made me look fat

In short: Well organised race with lots of pb potential
In full: Another good race from Nice Work, with t shirt at the end although I think I missed the Jaffa cakes! Cold and windy and would agree that the end was a bit muddled but chip timing and the finish arch good. Results out very promptly

In short: This was my 16th half marathon - worst medal yet!
In full: Very clubby race. Even a coach bringing runners from the London area. Terrible medal - looked like something out of a small child's cracker. Got charged the 'on the day' price, even though I applied in advance. Quite muddled at the end - cars and people all over the place. The marshals were gesticulating wildly and shouting at the top their voices to guide runners. Flat and fast - the weather was challenging, but didn't deter anybody. Marshals around the route were very good.
