In short: A truely gorgeous 10 mile race. In full: The course is flat and makes really good use of the towpath (of course!) There is a little teeny town bit along the side of Kew gardens, and they did sneak in some steps this year, but apart from that this race course is totally flat and fast.
The marshalls and race org are all excellent - loads of signs, loads of marshalls, 3 well placed water stops, and then bananas and water on the finish line - all incredibly friendly from first to last.
And the beer glass memento is good stuff too - well worth cherishing and using.
I will be back... and next year I will do better! Date of review: April 18, 2007
In short: Lovely atmosphere. Great marshalls. Great race. In full: This was the first towpath ten for me and I'll certainly be back hopefully next year. The course was great, although a little bumpy in places on the towpath but the early start ensured that it wasn't too busy with locals walking/blocking the way.
Only a few groups of supporters en-route but that was more than made up for by the excellent marshalls. Every single one of them had a smile on their face and was supporting us on the way round, so thank you.
After getting a banana and a lovely glass momento at the finish I was able to join friends and help cheer on in the rest of the finishers. The atmosphere in the finishing field area was great.
PS. Thanks also to everyone who helps behind the scenes. In my eyes the race ran like clockwork. Date of review: April 16, 2007
In short: Well organised event, worth the trip In full: The race starts with 1.75 laps of a field which is a bit tedious but better then than at the end. Once on the towpath, it is a little dusty and on a hot day, the public and their packs of dogs do represent minor annoyances rather than hazards. This year, it was very warm but the 9:30 start and the shade mean that it is bearable. the mile markers seemed absolutely spot on and the marshalls were switched on and supportive. The only minor quibble was the prize structure which failed to acknowledge that a W55 could beat all the W45s - race organisers do need to think through their prize policy and publish it in advance. Overall, a good event that deserves a better quality field - only 21 women beat 8 minute miling. Date of review: April 16, 2007
In short: Glorious! In full: OK, so the race should really be called the Towpath 7, with 3 miles of road running thrown in. But those 7 are gorgeous and pancake flat, so it remains a great course, especially in this type of great weather.
Fantastic marshalling - among the best I've ever experienced - and well organised throughout. Recommended. Date of review: April 16, 2007
