In short: WELL DONE TO EVRYONE In full: i hope there will b another 5k nxt yr.im glad i did 5.5k instead of 5k coz i was 2 mins off my target.i know d organization wasn't perfect but let's give them a chance.afterall,Birmingham hasnt really organized any running event yet and d B'ham half marathon proposed this oct.i think won't materialize.lets just continue collecting sponsorship for mcmillan.may we just have fun running and continue our love affair with it.i hope Birmingham will love it too.lets put B'ham in d runners' map Date of review: April 28, 2008
In short: More than a 5K - literally! In full: That was not 5k - that was nearer 5.5K - not a problem for most fun runners, and I know, I know, it is a "Fun Run" but the 4K marker was wrong, and the Alex Stadium Staff (and marshalls) were not ready for the front runners, consequently they directed us on an up and down loop, having to jump over the taped lanes in order to finish. I have just checked out the actual route against the proposed one on the fact pack and the finish in Perry Park is different - this meant we actually ran 5.5 kilometres! I am not sure if this got sorted as the main lot came through, but I was really annoyed at this, as I was looking for a PB at 5K and other than this the route held out promise of this.
The finale for me (and I nearly stuck my fingers up at this point) was the commentator in the Alex Stadium shouting "come on - you can run faster than that!" I felt like shouting "you chuffing try it love!!!!!" (or words to that effect). I was not expecting chip timing, anything fantastic in goodies (though this wa nice) - in fact, I wish that they would not have done goody bag to raise more money from the race for MacMillan(brilliant charity by the way).
I was expecting a finish where they generally are ready to receive you. The first lot of us were approaching the end and my wife (who was in the stadium) told me the PA was still not set up for the first few arrivals! CRAZY!
Get the basics right - mark out the route, and marshall it. That's all. Not impressed! Date of review: April 27, 2008
