In full: great family atmosphere,a good day out for all ages with potential for a fast time, however a poor website, lack of information,a failure to send out the race pack took the shine off the day.the run itself is bland and dull, crossing the barrage is the highlight if you dont mind wind Date of review: May 9, 2013
In short: Good 5m run.. nice views but organisation a bit so-so In full: First time I've entered this race and glad I did. Entered online, but turned up to collect my race number and was greated by a huge queue all doing the same! It could have been better organised but I got my number with about 10mins to go.. Race started well, with a leg up and back on Lloyd George Avenue and then into the docks themselves. Came through out onto the Bay barrage and it was a gorgeous day with nice views... then a quick leg back and past the new BBC studios before heading to the finish! Nice crowds at the finish line and a decent medal, bottle of lucozade and a tablefull of oranges! They could probably do the pre-race organisation, but a good fun run and nice to see so many people there as well! Date of review: May 8, 2013
In short: great day but organisation is 50/50 In full: Dry but very windy day - made the stretch on the Barrage more interesting! Route is simple enough but exposed and surprisingly not that interesting. Lack of attentive stewards made it difficult for the fast race leaders. Hazardous underfoot in the last 800m to the finish line (due to uneven ramping and building works) so take care with your sprint finish. Not enough goody bags, it all went to the 2K fun run and most 5 mile runners missed out. Good to have chip timing, but race packs were sent out very late indeed (if at all). No mention in advance of the bag collection point. The route is shared with other users so you may have to dodge bank holiday strollers, kids & dogs. This all said, it is a very well supported race and all the top club runners are there. Good atmosphere. Take your wallet to enjoy restaurants, bars, pubs, local attractions etc afterwards. And finally ---- the prize for winning team was money-off voucher for one pair of running shoes, hardly appropriate! Date of review: May 7, 2011
In short: A quick run around the bay area of Cardiff In full: First time I have done this race, and I'll definitely be looking to do it again. The course is certainly one with PB potential with it being flat. This year the wind didn't help, but I don't think that it would be fair to put the blame for that on the organisers. It was a little disappointing for there not to be any water on the route. However, with finances the way they are, and the run being for charity, the money has better places to be going. The main down side of the day for me was the start of the Fun Run. My son was tripped by another runner (not putting any blame there). The main cause, as I saw it, was due to parents of other fun runners encroaching on to the road at the start. A few more barriers, or more stewards, would have removed this situation, which meant that the start area was narrowed when being used by very enthusiastic children who are the future of running. In full: No goody bag at the end :-( Nah, just kidding. Great fun and nice day out for the family. The last mile and a half was super difficult because of the head wind which was a shame because until that point I was on for a stormer. Still got a respectable time though. The start was a bit of a squash and had to run onto the pavement by the spectators to get past the crush. Also there were no water stations along the route (the description said there would be occasional stations) I only expected one but alas there were none. Will carry my own water next year. The fun run also inspired my children to have a go next year :-)
Great morning overall and would definately do it again. Date of review: May 2, 2011
In short: Good course, hope it continues In full: Overall a good course, however it will always have the potential to be blustery down the barrage area which is the last leg of the race, i struggled in the last mile and a half because of the strong headwind. But overall I enjoyed the race and the oranges at the finishing line was a nice touch!
PROS: good flat course definate PB potential Well organised on the day
CONS:Poor website, needs more information e.g. race results, link to photos, may always be windy on last leg due to location of the last mile and a half.
In short: A nice run, but always liable to be blustery. Miserable if the weather's wet. Needs more info on website. In full: A near disaster for me as there was no bag storage - I nearly had to ask for my money back and go home. A good sized field (which means I didn'tcome last!), and could probably cope with double the numbers without a problem (althoug they might have to close the Barrage to others if they do). In short: Friendly atmosphere, great day out In full: I really enjoyed myself and will be back next year to improve my PB. The scenery was ever-changing, from our beautiful Cardiff Bay to the industrial port area and along a very windy Cardiff Barrage. The start and finish were a bit of a squash but the runners quickly spread out. Well worth the trip into town! Date of review: May 4, 2010
