In short: Brutal hill near the start but excellent winter improvement program across the series. Friendly. In full: After the first KM there is Larkstoke Hill which is about 2km long but once at the top yup have about 4km downhill of vary steepness; this allows you to make up some time. Back into the village for another shorter hill and then out to the finish.
This is a hard course and not for the faint hearted but the event is great for beginner and elite alike. Good friendly atmosphere. Date of review: October 28, 2013
In short: Brutal but spectacular In full: I always enjoy this race although Larkstone Hill is brutal. A very windy and at times rainy day did not help today, but still pleased to beat my expected time. No PB potential, and not really beginner friendly due to the hill, although the organisation is smooth. A pack of sausages as a prize, and a cup of tea and slice of cake for £1. The views from the top of the hill are spectacular, if a little bleak today. Much more fun than a big and soulless event. Can't wait for the next one next month. Date of review: October 27, 2013
In short: nice 10k route: organisation - bottle neck at start (minor irritation) and no medal In full: The profile on the website looked like it was hilly for the first 4-5k, but in reality two relatively small hills, route back in for the final 5k was mostly flat so definite potential for pb's which several Black Pear Joggers got today :) . again with threshold some organisational teething problems - can be easily sorted. lots of room at the start but squashed us into a narrow corner of the field and difficult to get into your stride with 1000 runners in a bottle neck to get out of the field - just either stagger the start (sub 45 and over 45 mins perhaps) will ensure everyone gets a clear run. No medal again from threshold - most of us club runners do the runs for 2 reasons - testing yourself against the course / time and to pick up a medal. similar size and cost races can provide medals so why can't threshold? Generally no other problems, nice route, well marshalled and good run into the finish to finish by the bottom of town with the crowds. Would I do it again? I would have to weigh up the course against the fact there is no medal...but possibly especially as its a fairly local race Date of review: September 8, 2013
In short: Good, fun race in & around Abbey Park In full: First time I've run this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Relaxed atmosphere, enjoyed the multi lap aspect. Marshalls were great and free parking at the Space Centre! Date of review: May 14, 2013
In short: Very friendly atmosphere and excellent organisation In full: The demanding hill (whichever way round you run this event) means that PBs are most unlikely. However, everyone seems to relish the challenge and the views from the top and on the way up are stunning. The friendliness of the organisers, marshals and everyone involved makes this a race well worth doing. Date of review: December 30, 2012
