In short: Disappointing In full: I ran the half-marathon in 2009 and found it well organised with a quality medal, ok T-Shirt and goody bag. This year I upgraded to the marathon and after telling some friends what an excellent event it was the previous year, felt badly let down. Obviously the organisers can't do anything about the weather and I actually enjoyed the battle against elements; in particular the 12 km stretch back from Blackpool when the wind was at its strongest. My 2 friends who ran their first marathon loved it and have got the bug knowing that if the weather is better they will be able to knock at least 10 mins off their time when they run again. There was a lack of water stops especially as the temperature rose and had another friend not met us at key points with drinks then we could have struggled. Also the medal probably cost 50p and was the same as the Blackpool 10km compared to the previous years classy effort. Also no T-Shirts (why? Entry was only 500 and all pre-entries) and no goody bag at the end. Not sure what the £22 covered? In summary, a poor effort and the previous year and I would probably not run again. My friends felt really disappointed after such an effort in adverse conditions to be given a bottle of water, poor quality medal and none of the things promised. Date of review: September 5, 2010

In short: A small friendly race with the calming sound of the sea keeping you company. Not an exciting course, but nice and flat along the seafront for most of the race. Felt a little disorganised at times, but the marshalls were very friendly and supportive. Date of review: September 5, 2010

In short: You dont pick the weather...the weather picks you!! In full: What I planned as a good training run, due to the wind, turned into a challenging run!! my thanks to all the marshals who gave up their time, and stuck it out.Enjoyed the day, expected a no frills marathon, and that was exactly what was in the tin. Drink stations were fine, signage was good and clear, no complaints thank you to all envolved, but dont forget to send me the T shirt. Date of review: September 4, 2010

In full: The wind was against us on the day but this is a very flat course and if conditions were better there would definitely be a good chance of a pb. I enjoyed the race, parking was easy, small toilet queues, a bit of banter at the start and fantastic marshals who must have haed a very tough day. I think another water station between 6.5 and 13 may have helped but I personally didn't find this a big issue. I didn't have any issues with the finish, although there was no big finish there was a sign and it was marked, which is for me all you need, and I thought the man with the mic was very supportive of the finishers. I didn't get a T-shirt but wasn't aware I was meant to and I don't feel it is a big loss, and I have received far worse medals, but again, for me they are all just a nice memento so it doesn't bother me how grand they are. I think for the entry fee it was a good value for money race. I think this was a well organised small marathon that is local (ish) to me so I would do it again, but maybe if you are new to marathon running or prefer to run with crowds and additional extras then this might not be the race for you. In short: Poorly organised and made worse by the wind / sand storms In full: Number & race instructions never arrived in the post despite me chasing. Organisation was poor and unhelpful. Route through housing estates and up the promonade was dull. Ran out of T-shirts in correct sizes. Not good. Date of review: September 1, 2010

In short: Flat, windy, severe lack of water stations. In full: Without the gale force winds, def a PB course. Nice route, mainly by the sea. Though not sure the section around 6 - 9 miles is a great choice of route as it's always windy in Fleetwood, & the sandblasting was quite bad, meaning we had to run with our eyes shut for ages.
Absolutely criminal lack of water stations. The one at 21 miles was removed towards the end, meaning those of us coming in close to 6 hours & over had NO WATER from 16 miles onwards. I was severely dehydrated & feeling very ill until a St John's fella went on a mission to find me a bottle of water. He was my saviour!
Water in plastic cups stupid idea for a marathon anyway, especially in high winds. Water in bottles stored in bins would have made much more sense in high winds.
No t-shirts left for me when I was a pre entry.(These are apparently being posted on, like when they ran out at the GNW HM)
£22 for a rather tacky cheap looking medal, & no t-shirt or goody bag poor value.
Shoestring races are normally fantastic. SRH aren't, though they have improved a lot recently. This felt very much like an SRH race to me, even though Shoestring had taken over as organiser.
I was elated to have run it all, & not be last, & it was lovely that the last few of us had a personal escort by the first aid people on bikes. It really helped having some company for the last couple of miles.
Small field, & no crowds of cheering spectators! Just head down, & on with the lonely personal battle! Date of review: September 1, 2010

In short: enjoyed the race. they ran out of tshirts but not medals. the wind and sand storm were killers. In full: had a good time you run alot on your own. I think the strong wind put a lot of people of watching. it was very hard running in that wind but would do it again. marshals were very good and they stood out in that wind all day. I think they need more water stops. over all enjoyed the day and am thinking of doing it next year. thanks Date of review: September 1, 2010

In short: touch windy but nice when behind you! In full: I did the half and enjoyed the run, well organised and enough marshalls on the course. No clock at the end was my only complaint. Re the marathon, I personally would not like to run such a distance in one of these smaller races as the runners are bound to get very spread out and it is dis-heartening unless you are one of the leaders (which I would not be!). Perhaps the organisers should just have a Half next year and put all their efforts into that - but that is no criticism of their efforts this year. Date of review: September 1, 2010
