In short: nice and flat but narrow in places In full: It was a very hot day so I was very glad of the early start, the full bottles of water and the flat route. There were quite a few places where it was single file / stop-start which was tough, and I actually had to ask a marshall for directions within a mile, which should never happen. The marshalls could have been a bit more supportive generally, some looked bored/tired/hot, but they couldn't have been as tired or hot as the runners. Date of review: June 2, 2012

In short: Lovely run through the countryside on the banks of the Thames, great marshals, good organisation In full: Great organisation, friendly frequent marshals, good public support, good range of speeds - the beginner would feel welcome, but the competitive people had company too. In short: Scenic flat multi-terrain route by the Thames on very sunny day! In full: Good multi-terrain course, about half roads and half tow path/fields. Narrow paths and gates are to be expected in multi-terrain races, plus the marshalls held all the kissing gates open for us, which was nice!
Very hot day this year, which made the last few kilometres tough! Date of review: May 28, 2012

In short: Lovely location, good atmosphere In full: My first 10k so not much to judge it by, other than other sports events I or the kids have been involved in.
I thought it was a nice, mixed course. Very enjoyable. I expect for those a lot faster than me it could have been frustrating, with kissing gates and single file sections, but that's pretty clear in advance from the comments from previous years.
Quite hot.

In short: is it a race or a fun run ? In full: Nice race HQ + carpark. Those were the good points.... Too many kissing gates to squeeze through - no hope of a pb here, Ideal for a lazy sunday jog, or a walk with the dog if you have one. and that's about it. Forget it if you don't like cows, as you share a field of them for a while.( so best not walk the route with the dog then ) Course was overcrowded this yr, so the narrow sections+gates were bottlenecks. Town centre had a coach sat loading right on the route, so had to go past it on the ( open to traffic ) road, so no, I did not enjoy this years run. needs to improve, or think about a change to it's identity ? is it a "run" or a race ? or mass participation event ? A new route would work wonders. even reversing the direction would help massively.
Will I do it again ? maybe.

In short: Lovely area and multi terrain route with PB potential In full: A great race for 1st time 10K runners with enough onsite to keep family entertained whilst you run. A lovely route very close to the historical town of Wallingford. The multi terrain, picturesque race route has no problems and no hills. Any single file areas pose no problems so long as you positioned yourself in the correct line up for your race time. The disposable timing chip/bands worked a treat and the self access to the race times database onsite was a nice touch. Date of review: June 6, 2011

In short: Scenic 10k In full: Easy to get to & plenty of parking on site. Nice venue for the race HQ & probably enough to keep supporters entertained while you're out running (I thought the petting zoo was a nice touch!).
Organisation was good & we got a briefing shortly before the start.
Parts of the course were single file & the field leading up to the finish was quite uneven which made a PB very unlikely. However, the route was very enjoyable.
Medal at the end & you can even pick the size of your t-shirt! Plenty of refreshments.
If it wasn't so far away from home then I would definitely look at doing this one again next year. Date of review: June 6, 2011

In short: A nice course and an ideal start/finish location In full: Enjoyed the race again this year. The short narrow sections and gates make it a tough race for PBs.
The start finish location is ideal with plenty of parking.
I'd prefer an earlier start but I can understand that might not be possible.
All in all it is a good, well organised race with an interesting course that includes sections along the river and through a pretty market town. Date of review: June 5, 2011

In short: Excellent 'local' multi-terrain 10k In full: Starts outside the town, in the grounds of an old house that now forms a country-style science park together with the hydrological research centre. The course is a mixture of quiet roads and footpaths, finishing through the town and back over the river. Fairly flat, but with a few gates and sharp corners to negotiate, you're unlikely to break any records. Well organised with stuff for the kids to do while you're running. Lots of local novices all need overtaking after the first couple of miles. BBQ afterwards to get some proten back in quickly. Date of review: June 16, 2010
