In short: Lovely area and lovely organisers In full: It was an incredibly hot day but plenty of water and the odd shower from friendly locals. The goody bags even had local apple juice and Cider from Biddenden, which was a nice touch. Good atmosphere around the start/finish and everybody worked hard to make this a smooth and enjoyable day. In short: There were many runners who were hot like me! In full: The Weald of Kent 10 was a beautiful and delightful race but it was boiling hot! It was the hottest day of the year!!! For me, running conditions were very tough. The temperature peaked at 31 degrees and it was very humid. The scorching heat was complete utter torture. Race Organisers- there were insufficient water stations. Three water stations were not enough for 10 miles in that scorching heat. One more water station would have helped us runners to cope better with the heat and temperature. I also think it would be a good idea to move the race to an earlier time which would help to avoid the full intensity of the heat.
However the chip-timing was very good. The Runners and Marshals were all very friendly and helpful. Additionally, the medal, goody bags and drinks were great.
I am pleased I ran The Weald of 10 race. It was quite a flattish course which was a PB potential. However, with the extreme heat and very hot temperature I achieved a seasonal worst. Nevertheless, I do hope to run this again.
For me this race was very testing both mentally and physically. It pushed every single button in my body.
The Weald Kent 10 miles was last year rated number 26 for Reader’s Top 50 Races’ 2009 with 25-49 votes.
Well done Maidstone Harriers- The Weald Kent 10 was a great race!
In short: Quality Race and Great Organisation In full: Maidstone Harriers were superb put on a great race. Legislate for the weather and bring the time to a 9 am start? I know it work well at the Dartford Half but then you have problems with people travelling and getting to an event which is very rural in this case, particularly difficult by public transport? Lets hope its a little cooler most years I think. Date of review: June 30, 2010
In short: Great event, but not enough water on course for 30+ degree temps In full: This is a great event, on a great course and organisation was mostlyvery good, but.......In 30 degree heat, there needs to be a better supply of water. Luckily I carried my water bottle as far as the first water station, where I stopped to re-fill from the daft plastic cups provided. Please provide water in bottles next year for the many that didn't carry their own bottle or who didn't want to waste time filling up - I even had to share my bottle with a runner that looked close to collapse who was still a mile from the next water stop! Other than that, brilliant! Date of review: June 30, 2010
In full: Verry verry hot! 11:00 too late astart for June. Drinks stations could be paced better, maybe an extra one in very hot weather.Race Pack needed to be collected on day, when entry form asked for a sae. However, well organized by Maidstone Harriers,a nice friendly event. No one can change the weather!Well done and thank you everyone. In short: Lovely route, real test of endurance in the heat In full: Great, scenic course through lovely countryside. Thanks a lot to the couple after 2 miles or so with the makeshift shower at the side of the road! Race HQ was in a lovely setting and the shade of the trees was a very welcome relief after the race. Couldn't fault the organisation and thanks a lot to the Scottish guy that rescued me from the A274 on the way there and gave me a lift! Date of review: June 28, 2010
In short: Too hot to be running with an 11am start time, earlier would have been better. However lovely course, PB potential if cooler. Flat and fast. One more water station would have be welcomed on such a hot day. Thanks for the cider and the medal. Date of review: June 28, 2010
In short: lovely race and scenic, but was very hot In full: the organisation was very good, great goody bag and a lovely location. Needs to be at least an hour earlier because of the hot weather, and a well needed water station in the middle. could do with having one every 2.5 miles and there was a big space in between the two, and then one a mile from the end. i would do it again, but if it was hot, only if it was an hour earlier and more water stations. In short: HOT, HOT, HOT??!! In full: Could do with an earlier start? To avoid running at hottest part of the day? Heard many similar comments from other runners at the start yesterday?! Due to the high temps there was little chance of a pb for myself? Nice race though.. Excellent goody bag with local cider included... Plus, of course the Medal(a must have). Thank you Date of review: June 28, 2010
