In short: Beautiful scenery and a great run if a little hot. In full: Loved this run, the scenery was magnificent and it was great to take part in a point to point for once, rather than the usual circuit or laps. The summer heat made it tricky - I'd love to do the same route in the winter but it'd probably be too dangerous because of flooding. Date of review: September 25, 2014
In short: One of the most scenic races I've done In full: A very well organised race, as it has been the previous two times I've run it. It was nice to be able to get a printout of your result as soon as you'd finished, and the ice cream van was very welcome on a hot day, nothing else to add to the other comments. I certainly hope to do it again next year. Date of review: July 28, 2014
In short: An all time favourite In full: A glorious event, lovely scenery and all of the usual super slick organisation that you'd expect from Purple Patch. I've run this every year since 2007 and this was the best yet - I may be a mid-pack plodder these days so perhaps I take more time to take in the view!
My last race in the area was the debacle of the F3 Events attempt at putting on something similar a couple of months ago - I'd put the Down Tow Up Flow down as a great example of how to really organise a race. First class. Date of review: July 28, 2014
In short: Hot trot by the Thames In full: Second time doing this run, last was in 2012 on the adjusted route due to Olympics at Eton Dorney.
Start in Windsor was well organised, leaving promptly at 10am. Despite most of the run being on narrow trail, the wave starts made sure it wasn't too crowed. A couple of kissing-gates and road crossings didn't make too much of an impact - the steps over the bridge at about 11mi certainly woke the quads up!
All in all a good race. A tad too hot to be pushing for PBs, especially the final third once leaving Cookham in the exposed fields...unrelenting sunshine! Nice for a stroll, not so good after 9/10 miles of hard running!
See you at the startline again soon. Date of review: July 28, 2014
In short: One of the best half marathons in the country In full: The previous correspondents have said it all. Magnificent route-encouraging marshalls-bags of waterstops-unusual medal-excellent organisation. What more can one hope for? Perhaps a t-shirt? PS My wife also won an award! In short: A great race, very well organised In full: This race is always one of the high spots of my year and each year it gets better organised. The scenery is beautiful and the organisation is faultless but always looking for small improvements. The park in Windsor was an ideal start venue this time round. The course is quite narrow but the "wave" starts mean that it never seems too crowded to run. Given the course and fact that this always seems to be run on the hottest weekend of the year this is never going to be a race for PBs (although my days of PBs are long behind me anyway!!) but if I could only run one event a year this would be the one. In short: Seeing how the other half live!! In full: Lovely. There are a couple of bottlenecks but the course does run along the towpath and this is very clear in the race information. The Windsor start and first few miles make the course even more scenic (and easier parking) than the previous Chalvey start (when I last run it in 2012), and adds the wonderful little church at Boveney to the route.
The route is uplifting for pretty much the full distance, and the total value of the properties you run past must equate to the GDP of a small country! It is also surprising how isolated you can feel in such a populous area.
My only little gripes - which are very little - were getting out of the car park in Marlow (aargh!) and the lack of goody bags. Date of review: July 27, 2014
In short: Magnificent scenery on a hot day In full: Back at this much loved race after a year off with injury. Course's timeless river beauty undiminished. Too hot for PB but a privilege to take part. Many thanks to wonderful organisers and very encouraging marshals Date of review: July 27, 2014
