In short: Nice little race! In full: I did this race as part of a warm up for the Bridlington Half-marathon which took place the week after. The start and the finish was situated in a nice little scenic park. The start of the race was a little crowded at first but once you got going all the runners were fanned out. It is flat all the way round with one exception the man made hill which passed over the M62 which you cross over twice at the start then you do a loop and you cross over the motorway in the last km. The finish could have been done better runners were forced to run in single file while cars were coming out of the park. We all got a goody bag with a medal and a bottle of water of finishing got round in just over 48 mins which I was pleased with and its a flat fast course as well and the race filled up really quickly despite it only been only the 2nd year of the event but I recommend that you give it a go. In short: Thoroughly enjoyable! In full: Am new to running, and have only ever run in charity type runs, this was the first time in a real 'race', with serious runners. People were very friendly. I really enjoyed the race, nice and flat, with pleasant views over the fields. Marshals were friendly, especially nearer the end when encouragement was welcome. Only bad bit was weaving through cars which were leaving the car park just yards before the finish. Not much chance to really stretch and sprint to the end! Will go again next year! In short: Great race for PB In full: This was my 3rd 10k and I managed to knock 5 minutes off my time. There is a hill at the end which is challenging. The only issue was no water at the end and too many cars around near the end and down some of the lanes which caused runners a few issues. Other than that pleased with it because I achieved my PB of just under the hour.... Date of review: October 12, 2009
In short: Nice and quick. A really good one for anybody striving for a 10k PB In full: Start could have been dodgy. As could the finish as cars left through the entrance where runners were finishing. Date of review: October 12, 2009
In short: good potential for pb , flat apart from motorway hill In full: Well organised . Good of local pub to let us use the loos. Little bit of bottle neck at start , but you can take that into accont with your own watch . Plenty of space when you got out onto the country lanes . A runners run as no one stopping to walk in front of you at 2k . Overall very good . Date of review: October 12, 2009
In short: Flat, fast albeit dull course made for PBs. Poor starting organisation cost time. In full: Flat country lanes across open farmland makes this a great race for PBs. The downside was the organisation, just 2 toilets in a nearby pub for 250 competitors & supporters simply isn't enough. The "starting funnel" to herd competitors through the narrow park gates cost me the best part of a minute before I could start running. They should definitely consider switching the start and finish points to avoid this fiasco, alternatively chip timing could be employed.
In short: Ideal race for your PB, however poorly organised. In full: The course itself is nice and flat so its a good course to push for a PB, but as far as race organisation goes it leaves a lot to be desired. The nearest toilet facilities were at the local pub, which for the gents wasn't too much of an issue as we were straight in and out but I had to sympathise for the ladies as their queue was horrendous. Once the race got underway the marshalls were extremely sparse and largely ignorant ( bar the gent just before the 9k marker ). The final problem came when you entered back into the Howden for the finish where you were met with gridlocked traffic, so I spent the last 500 yards weaving in-between cars. Don't think I'll be doing this one again I'm afraid.
In short: nice small race In full: A nice race on a flat course apart from the motorway bridge.
Main problem is the start, everyone funnels through a narrow gate where they had cunningly placed a platics case to try an trip you. The race should start on the main road. Date of review: October 12, 2009
