In short: Flat and fast with nothing to see. In full: The course is a flat fast two laps with nothing to see. There was little to no support out on the course apart from the marshals who were excellent. If you want cheering crowds you need to enter the BUPA 10k.
As mentioned by others it was chip timed but only from the gun - be nice to see this chip to chip but as the roads are not closed this may be a logistical issue more than anything else.
Bottom line, if you want a fast 10k to have a good crack at your pb this is a race to try just don't expect cheering, bands playing and a big fuss as you come over the finish line.
It is on my "to do" list for 2014. Date of review: April 5, 2013

In short: Not impressed... :-( In full: For as many years as I can remember I have made the trip over the hill from Yorkshire to run this event which is as smooth as clockwork - well organised, good marshalling, flat as a pancake, good facilities etc. This year though, for some reason I had an 11am start in my mind and fortuneately got there and 9.40 thinking I was way too early! Not a good start but hey ho, first lap was uneventful but on the second, some numpty, another runner, decided to jump up onto the pavement where I was running from the road side without looking behind and crashed into me. I ended up flat on my back with the skin off one knee and what turned out to be a broken rib, thanks whoever you are, you didn't even bother stopping and left it to an onlooker to help me, (thanks!). Apart from that, the race was as good as ever and to be recommended, thanks Salford Harriers. Date of review: March 31, 2013

In short: Excellent race. In full: This is definately a race I intend to run every year. Good pb potential as a fast flat course. Extremely well organised. Great value for money at a quarter of the cost of the Bupa 10k. I like the fact it is a two lap course, as helps with pacing. The only thing I would change is to have chip timing for the results. There was a timing mat at the end only meaning the results were based on the gun time. It would help to also have a timing mat at the start to give the chip time also. Although obviously a cost involved I would pay a littld extra to facilitate this Date of review: March 30, 2013

In short: My local race In full: I thought it'd be rude not to run take part as this race starts opposite my house. It was my first race and I found the atmosphere quite unfriendly and intimidating, I think this is due to the fact that the course is so flat that most of the runners are serious competitors looking for a new pb. The scenery is dire but the marshalls were good and it was well organised. The course is very flat and very quick so perfect for pb chasers Date of review: May 16, 2012

In short: fast flat PB potential race. Very well organised and marshalled. Good value for money. Defiantly will be there next year. In full: If your after a new 10K PB this is one of them races. Fast and flat on the roads of Salford. Maybe not the most scenic place to run but a new PB is all that matters at the end of the day. 2 laps which is great as you know what time/pace your running at and you know the course on the 2nd time round to speed up or down. Very competitive race with loads of good runners which is great to follow a good pace setter. Recommend to all levels of ability, really flat course and PB is there for the taking Date of review: April 7, 2012

In short: One of the best 10k races in the UK In full: Crikey, do Yorkshire folk know how to organise a seriously good 10k or what? First time I've done Salford but it's right up there with Dewsbury, Leeds and Trafford if you're looking for a very well organised, very fast race. I'll definitely be back when I'm in better shape as this course has got PB written all over it. Congrats to Salford Harriers for putting on a great event and thanks to all the marshalls for doing such a fine job. Date of review: April 6, 2012
