In short: Not as tough as I thought it would be. Fun all the same
In full: Having done Down South twice, and getting a medal for the last one (2011), I decided that I'd do all three. I was the 2nd mankini man and was running with a group of friends. Twas cold. I knew there would be some hills and found them okay, needing special powers of balance to go down the slopes. The bog of doom was shorter and shallower that down south BUT WOW was it colder. I managed to get a duck though. The marshals were TOP DRAW, full of support. It was sad to see so many people injured but how good was the medical help and first aid? I was most impressed. The only little nag I have was the medal, T-shirt and goodie bag collection. Waiting in that zig-zag line was SO VERY VERY COLD. It would have been better if we could have gone in a line, through the tent and collected as we went. I was led to believe that there was a special prize for dressing in a mankini and for getting a duck but I didn't see anything indicating such - perhaps I missed it. Thanks to the organisers. I will be doing Up North so as to get all 3 medals.

In short: Not as hellish as I thought
In full: I'm queen of the plod so was a bit scared of this one, but to be honest it wasn't as hellish as I thought it would be. Yes there were mega hills (and lots of them!), some of which I had to walk, but I quite enjoyed the break and the banter with other plodders. Bit disappointed the hell bit was mainly the hills, the water/bog of doom wasn't until quite late on and wasn't nearly as bad as I'd imagined. I actually enjoyed the mud! plus it was nowhere near the advertised 11 miles, which although made it easier, actually made me feel a little it disappointed.
Overall good organisation, lovely t shirt/medal/goody bags, no probs with parking/loos/bag drop etc, in the end a rather pleasant morning out! I'll be back next year.

In short: Excellent Fun! But Don't Moan About the Walkers
In full: Having done this race before, it is not a PB course and I run this one for fun. Having had serious illness in the past two years, I am not as fast as I was and was one of the 'walkers up the hills!'. The only minus was people pushing past me to get a faster time. Does anyone else run for fun anymore!!. Even had someone shouting 'it's Hellrunner, not Hellwalker'!. Everyone who took part should be proud of themselves, runners and walkers. Here's my message for the moaners: START AT THE FRONT IF YOU WANT A GOOD TIME. WE'RE NOT ALL MO FARAH, GET A LIFE AND HAVE FUN.

In short: Good fun and well worth doing, can be frustrating though!
In full: This was my first proper trail running event and I did really enjoy it. Loved the water sections and the hills that you could run up!! The main issue I think is that there were a lot of walkers. I think some of the hills were so steap that you couldn't run them and to walk was a welcome relief. However there were people walking after about a mile!!! I mean come on if your walking after a mile then why are you attempting this race???? It did become frustrating keep stopping and starting. That said I did enjoy the race as a whole and the medal, t-shirt and goody bag was good value for the entry fee. I'll be back next year and try to get nearer to the front!!!
