In short: Magnificent Beauty and Beast
In full: Starting and finishing at the racecourse, the route gradually climbs up the nearby fell, crossing becks and styles, passing tarns and with stunning views of the Lakeland Mountains and Kent Estuary. And that mud....

There could be no problem route finding, marker flags, marshalls and signs all the way round

The atmosphere at the finish was electric, with a Batala Band drumming runners is, lifting tired legs on the last 200m to a grandstand finish on the Racecourse. A great experience.

In short: Amazing experience
In full: Thoroughly enjoyed this race. Was a little late setting off but otherwise ran like clockwork. Delivered everything promised. Start / finish location at the racecourse was lovely and the route was just amazing! Big thanks to race organisers and the team of marshalls and the decent weather. See you again next year hopefully! :)

In short: Tough muddy race in stunning location
In full: I can only comment on my own experience which was a positive one. Race had a real mix of terrain with some real sticky mud in places. The first 5k felt like a constant incline, the next 9k was fairly undulating with a steady downhill for last 4k (apart from a very cruel steep bit with 1k to go. The clear skies gave great views of the lake district & the kent estuary. I wasn't aware of runners going off course until I got home and read this website. Its a shame as the Lakeland Trails are normally so well organised.

In short: Never again.
In full: Thought we would wait for the outcome of the enquiry before leaving our review, giving the organisers a chance to apologise for what was a blatant error on their part. After receiving their email today we are even more annoyed than we were after the run. It begins with an apology from the race director for competitors having problems following the course! not for the lack of course markings or marshalls, then goes on to blame the runners for following the poeple in front and states that red tape was in place to show the route. The problem area had red tape on the floor but this wasn't near the gate. The gate was open and unmarshalled. Without any markings or marshalls people ran straight on, this was the obvious route why would anyone turn 150 degrees or look back over their shoulder? I understand that over 60 people had the same problem, probably everyone that came to this point after the tape was vandalised. I am sure more would have gone this way if other runners hadn't warned them. WE DID NOT GO ASTRAY, WE DID NOT CROSS RED AND WHITE TAPE. YES YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD A MARSHALL AT THIS POINT AS RECOMMENDED TO YOU BY THE INDEPENDANT EVENT REFEREE. We did a 300 mile round trip for this run, never again and after the email recieved today we won't be doing anymore lakeland trail runs. Also poor quality t shirt, water in little plastic cups......

In short: Got lost due to lack of Marshals and flags with around 30% of the runners!
In full: Shame, great event and a great day but one big problem, 30% of the runners got lost on a run which you do not need to navigate on!

In short: A very sticky run!
In full: I really enjoyed this event, very sticky mud under foot with all the overnight rain but it turned out to be a sunny day. I have done many Lakeland Trails events now and always find the courses very well marked and marshalled and the most amazing scenery this event was no exception. I found my way around with no problems as did the race winner who finished the 18km in 67mins without a step wrong. So I can only wonder what happened to those who led other competitors astray... did they look for markings because they were there and if they ran for several kms without seeing any course markings why didn't they turn around to get back on course and also let the other competitors know they had gone wrong rather then let a whole group follow them?????
Last year I belive some marshalls had to leave their posts to deal with a medical incident on the course this is why you need to be prepared to look for and follow course markings. It's a shame this has distracted some from what was a really good day. Thankyou to those who make this event happen. I will be back for more!

In short: Enjoyed it
In full: Went the right way on the 18k challenge thankfully and ended up coming 3rd (by default!!!!). Cos i fortunatly went the right way I loved this run but can sympathise fully with the poor buggers who went the wrong way due to some poor marshalling.

In short: Very bad organisation at one point in the race
In full: I was amongst a large number throughout the race that got lost due to poor management during the race. My team mate and I got back on course and finished it (15mls). The course had already been swept and it was only through memory (I had ran the end of the course 4 weeks prior) and by following 100's of pairs of Inov8 footprints. Next time I had better bring my map and compass!!!
